Desktop background reverts back to 'none'

My desktop background reverts back to 'none' each time I start the computer. The computer is an old HP running XP Pro. It was badly infected with malware so I suspect something is still in there.

I went through the registry and deleted every reference to 'wallpaper'. This delayed the change to the end of the boot process, but at the end of the boot process I lost the desktop background I had selected and it reverted back to none.

I have attached ntbtlog.txt so hopefully someone can detect a problem there and hijackthis.txt in case seeing what's running will be useful.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

As you've already done a cleanup, do you still have SuperAntispyware installed? If so, open the control centre > repair tab and scroll down to "Remove/Reset Windows Desktop Backgound/Wallpaper", highlight it and click "Perform repair".

It has worked for me after struggling for a fix for hours :)

Thanks for the recommendation. My problem is solved.
