"My Heart Is Racing"

Just had to share my overwhelming excitement! I've been in tears, but good tears. Ya know how when you have a dream or goal you've had your entire life and out of the blue, it's realized? OMG! LOL

Those of you that have known me for a long time know that I'm a racing fanatic. Something about that vroom vroom :-D of a racing engine has pulled at me since I was kid so I always would go to local tracks back home every chance I got. I was, and am still, always glued to the TV watching NASCAR or any other race that is on. My dream has been to see a race, any race...at Daytona. I'd like to go to Talladega & Bristol too but Daytona had been a dream I thought would never be realized.

I got a call about 20 minutes ago from our good friend Deborah saying her husband Keith was looking for a date for the Daytona 400 Saturday so I should give him a call. Say What!?!?!?! *THUD*

WooHoo! I'm going to the Daytona for the Coke Zero 400 on the 4th of July! *wipes away more tears* I just can't believe it!!!!! celebrate:dancer:clap

Thanks Laura! I'm still in shock! LOL Deborah and Keith have been great friends since I moved here 7 years ago. I forget how long Chris has know them. We vacation with them at least once a year and it's actually comical cuz Keith & I have to keep up with any NASCAR race that might be on while Deborah and Chris are disinterested. Two years ago we stayed at a Hampton Inn & Suites directly across from the tunnel at Daytona and hearing the cars on the track from the driving experience about killed me. :-D

I would love to take a drive or even ride but with my back problems I highly doubt I'd even be able to get in one of the cars. You could though! So why not? You could do it for both of us.:cool

Excellent news Abby! With you down there watching it, that means it won't be on our TV here and I can watch the Godzilla movie marathon.

 

Don't forget I will be recording the race on our TV while I'm gone.:cool Gotta have it to look back on.

 

Had the chance, turned it down. It's one of those been there-done that-got the t-shirt deals. Actually, stock car racing was a bigger part of my life than I care to remember

roflmao Beth! Catching a tire? That's a good one! Anything remotely like that heading my way and I'll be the first one doing a nose dive to get out of the way. :-D

Keith says we're gonna mingle for a few hours before the race so maybe I'll "catch" a ball cap or t-shirt. For that I'd be the first one pushing someone else out of the way so I can get it! :-o:-D

LOL, lucky there were no flying tires in that race, what a carnage!:-D

 

She had a fantastic time. The last lap crash happened pretty much right in front of where she was sitting, so she got a great view of that. She didn't get home until after 3:00 this morning and pretty much slept the day away, but has a boatload of pictures she took and will sort through them tomorrow and likely post some of them. All-in-all, it was a pretty exciting race(well, the last 10 laps anyway) considering most NASCAR races are snoozefests lately. But since it was something she always wanted to go see, I'm happy she had a great time because that's all that matters to me.
