I know in most forums, "bumping" isn't acceptable. But with the 10-minute edit limit, sometimes you need to add another post to provide more information that is discovered (I do that frequently). Whats the rules on that?

If you have a legitimate reason for adding more substantial information, bumping is allowed.
Might I suggest you do a little more research into your problem or situation before posting in the first place so as to give more information to start with.

(Hmmm. Just looked at the shortened version of the rules, and the statement about more information is not in there. It may be in the long version of the rules or there might have been a change. Yoohoo Halo, what's the scoop?)

That's not bumping. Bumping is posting a message for no reason other than to push the topic further up the board to be noticed.

What you're talking about is double-posting, which due to the edit limit is a frequent problem.

    Hi

Type up your original post in Word or Notepad then wait 10mins and if nothing to add then post the question, if something to add then add and post the question, its a trick I tend to do alot.

BUMP too much and I ban ;) :p

To answer you lbmest, you're pretty much bang on, if the next post after the edit does add something new and relevent to the issue then fine its not an issue, but do it many times in a row then it may, which is why I posted the first paragraph above.

There are times when I start to answer a question and leave it to think more while answering others, could actually have 3-6 posts on the go at once, odd times I leave a post 30mins just incase I think of something better or new to add to a fix, nothing worse that multi posting as it can confuse the issue as the thread tends to go out of sync, as users post on the basis of the original info and may not see the next post coming 10mins later.

The background to the short edit time is that we had a spate of users posting info and then when wrong and corrected, changed their original post to make the ones following with correct answer look as if they where copying, also had some chaning posts to save face as they where really wrong with info, so now its warts and all after 10mins.
