Since installing WD AnyWhere (Memeo) Backup Software, Vista prompts me at each start to allow the program to run (under the User Account Control). Can any one advise as to how to PERMANENTLY allow the program to run ?

Thank you for your reply, and the link, Aimee. I have read so much stuff about UAC that my head is spinning.

I don't quite understand what I am reading on the website. If I edit the registry so that there is no administrative prompt, then what is the purpose of having UAC turned on at all?

I have become pretty adept at most things XP related, but Vista is become mostly a PITA as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I am not a power user, nor am I knowledgeable and confident in the use of Vista, but I am about ready turn off UAC, DomLuc. It seems ridiculous to me that there is not an option to permanently allow a program to run. And, it is quite annoying to have to give permission for my backup software to run each time I boot the computer.

As I told Aimee, I'm not understanding a lot of what I'm reading, so it's hard to make a decision on what to do. I agree with you that it is a "right royal PITA !"

Open Software Explorer in Windows Defender in an administrator account and set your apllication as a trusted one.

I expect you will find it is currently listed as unclassified.

Unfortunately, I'm not liking any of my options at the moment. Not liking Vista very much, either ~smile~

Thank you for your reply, studiot. You're right, it is listed as Not Yet Classified. However, I can't seem to find an option to set it as trusted. There are buttons for Remove, Disable and Enable, but the Enable button is grayed out. Is there something that I'm overlooking?

Until I have more than a few minutes to set up the task schedule option, I guess I will just have to keep checking allow each time it runs. Thanks for the replies.
