My most irrelevent post to date, but GMAIL finally looses its beta tag today, its been one of the longest running betas I have known, started in 2004 would you believe!

While it may be a while before all countries are updated to the non beta tagged version over the next few days or so, mine has not changed from a beta yet, does this mean it will work perfectly, hahahhaha NO, like all software and websites it will be prone to glitches and offlines.

Some of the other Google desktop apps also loose beta status, the word is that companies dont like the beta status, so Google decided to drop it (note from a friend of mine who messes with Google stuff, is that they will in tounge and cheek have in the options the option to turn the beta tag back on.

    Hi Augie

I believe it wasnt a lawsuit/s but more pressure from enterprise to drop the beta tag, while techs in industry know what beta is, the execs of corps dont (in the majority) and as such think that this is buggy trial software, so and this is my thoughts.... it was in Googles best interest to drop the beta tag and it has done this also on Google Docs, in which they want enterpise to use this online app over MS Office, so in dropping the beta tag it makes or will allow Google to push their online apps easier to corps/enterprise.

Having it beta for so long has allowed them to shrug off glitches and bugs easier in saying "its beta" but a beta has to come to an end sometime!

As you know I and I know you treat final released software still as beta as no software is ever 100% perfect, it maybe passable but it will always crash on someones PC setup.

Loosing the beta status also looses much of the support.

No beta = no bugs = nobody listening to complaints.

This must be why they turned off some Labs items this week too.

    :(
