Was trying Linux out on my system. Did not mount ,but was trying from a live CD.
Now,whenever I reboot that machine, I have to choose whether to boot from Kubunto or Windows.
How can I remove that choice?

Something installed because a live CD does not install GRUB, the boot choice manager you are looking at. A live CD is simply used then the CD taken out and it is as if the computer never ran linux when it is rebooted.
    Have a floppy drive?
If so, create a Super Grub boot disk

I'll explain how to use Rawwrite to create it, once I'm sure you have a floppy and have downloaded the file.
Once the boot floppy is created, you boot from it, go through the menus and select the one that says Repair Windows MBR. That will remove the boot up options and you can boot straight into windows.

I do have a floppy drive, but have to get some floppys first.

    Okay.
The file you will be downloading is similar to an ISO, in that it is an image file and can't simply be put on a floppy.

To get the image onto the floppy, you download Rawwrite
    http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite
and install it (you want the windows version 0.7)

Click the gray screen shot on the right. When you run Rawwrite, that is what you will see. Be sure there is a floppy in your drive and below where there is an empty box aside of the word image, click the 3 dots. You will browse until you find the SGD image file and click the write button. You will get a popup warning you that everything on the floppy will be overwritten. In under a minute, a boot floppy is created.
Keep the floppy in, close the programs and reboot.

I don't remember exactly where the menu item I told you about is located so you'll have to go through all the menus until you stumble across the one that says Fix Windows MBR. That will fix it.

what is giving you this choice ?

fixboot and fixmbr from the recovery console of xp should do the job (if you are using xp, this works in w2k as well - don't know about vista)

I was multibooting with Ubuntu/Vista/XP, slapped in the Vista DVD, got the command prompt and issued 'bootrec /FixMbr'. Worked perfectly.

Main concern is how come I'm being asked this after using a live CD to try. Did NOT install on drive.
CD used looks like a burned copy somebody made. Writing on disk is felt tip marker.Could they have done something during the burn?

Who knows what they did if anything. I have tried many LiveCD's and never came across this. They could have modified it before the burn to suit their needs.:confused What happens if you hit the *nix option upon boot?

Never tried. Was just planning to try it out.Didn't like it,so rebooted.
Then FUN TIME. It's there where it shouldn't be.
Have used real live CDs before,no problem. That's what surprised me.When something that doesn't ,does.

maybe you could modify grub so it selects windows as the default option and then have it only wait 1 or 0 seconds before booting it.

I only know how to do that with a valid linux installation on my hard drive. If you are interested in the option, I could probably figure it out for you.

    Getting crazier all the time.:confused
Just did a System Restore and rolled back to the day before running the CD.
It worked. No more nag about which to boot.
    Mark this as done.
    (should have tried that sooner.):-o

Who would have ever thought that Linux pushed itself into XP? :confused That CD had to have been modded, besides the normal PEBKAC.;)

The only thing I can imagine that instead of a live CD, you were given Wubi. This installs Ubuntu inside of windows and I guess would then offer a boot loader at startup.
I've never looked at Wubi (Ubuntu doesn't like my hardware) so I can say for sure that is what happened.

The CD disk I received had Kubuntu written on it with marker, but there were a couple of wubi folders on my C drive. They got deleted pretty quick.

Aah, I had forgotten about Wubi. This is one reason I never run anything given to me unless I put it on my test rig.

Might call this one my test machine because it wasn't my primary, but one of my "twins".

plodr should get ranked since he hit the nail on the head. Nobody is using that feature yet and he may as well be the first one.:)
