    After removing malware from this computer (READ & RUN ME and a clean bill of health from Chaslang) I began looking at my C drive a little closer (dangerous, I know). I noticed that there are normal files like Downloaded Program Files, Config, etc., but then there are many files tagged on at the bottom.

    There are many of them. Is that normal?

    Also, in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files these appear which status says are "unknown."

    {8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C}

    Just curious. Any ideas?

    Could you see if the file extensions are as follows: .old?

    Hi

    Alot of these are addons like Java, MSN Photo Upload tool, etc which are addons to Internet Explorer, most are safe but if you have had malware then you did right in being cautious.

    {31435657-9980-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} is a GUID to a Microsoft file
    {8FFBE65D-2C9C-4669-84BD-5829DC0B603C} is a GUID of Adobes Flash Player

    To save me looking at your past threads, what Windows version and what browser do you generally use?

    Could try the disk cleanup Wizard and at top of the menu is delete download program files, rigth click your C drive and choose Properties > Disk Cleanup

    Halo,

    I run Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Svc Pack 3.

    Until recently (within past month) I always used IE, but have since switched to Firefox.

    Is there much danger in using Disk Cleanup? I'm a novice.

    Have you recently installed the OS again? Usually when you do it saves certain files to the extension .old file format for you to either copy to your newer version of the OS you reinstalled or just to delete it.

    Nope, its fine, very likely if Chas has removed all malware from your PC the Active X GUIDs in that location are all ok.

    Thanks, I'll try that and get back if anything else looks strange.
