Just wondering if anyone out there knows of a good utility for getting thew most out of Windows 7. Am looking more at a "click this button to activate all the best tweaks" kinda software, rather than going through and having to know what each individual thing does. Cheers for any help!

not really , except to use firefox while surfing use noscript, and the plugin that deletes all lso cookies after you close the browser. CCleaner is good, use a good anti-virus, wise registry cleaner worked well but i have not tried it with win 7 yet.

I guess you can tweak you settings and stuff manually but i do not think there is a official windows 7 one click program yet, but i know alot of vista programs work with win 7 so you can try those..

Yeah I have most of the general stuff, was hoping Tuneup Utilities would work, but for some reason it worked on Windows 7 x86 build 7022 (I think) and Vista x64 but it won't work on Windows 7 x64 build 7264... Even tried compatibility mode for Vista and XP and still doesnt work. Have downloaded the trial for Tweak-7 and am considering having a play with it, but don't know whether the manual tweaks it has will make it run better or not.

I am not sure why you are having a problem with Tune up ?
I am running a slightly earlier build (7100) windows 7 64bit and have just downloaded and installed the trial of tune up and it is working OK for me, so maybe download it again.

    Hi

Not many of them do a quick fix as they dont know what options you want or need, so many just allow you to choose the options you want, plus the problem with a one click tweaking app is that if you dont know whats being disabled you have no idea what to fix if something doesnt work in other software or the OS throws up an error.

    XDN

EnhanceMySe7en (this would be my choice in tweaking app)

are both ok, however I did go through many of the options on these months ago and didnt find much that I wanted to change from default, Windows 7 does a fair job itself of fine tuning itself, just these apps offer an easy route to turn off some of the glitzy options.

Plus as you are using a leaked build which was aimed at OEMs or Partners they are builds released to fix specific issues and are whats called "debug/checked" builds to try and narrow down any issues at core/driver level, they can be slower that the release builds and also have faults that the release builds dont have, so your issues with some applications may occur.

Always best to run offical release builds.

I was not aware that this version was leaked, and that could very well explain why I am having troubles with it. Will give those apps a go, have used some other ones I found, and so far no problems, though I have been cautious with the options.

Will download Tuneup again and see if that fixes it, as I have always found it to be good and if it works then I'll just stick with what it can do for me.

    Cheers

Where did you download it from? just curious.

Oh BTW the news from yesterday is that Windows 7 has now gone RTM and for Partners/OEMs and those with MSDN and Technet accounts will be able to get the final version on August 6th, everyone else is October 22nd.

My friend gave it to me, as I had already downloaded the 32-bit about 2 weeks ago and didn't want to demolish my cap (it's only a 10gig limit). Didn't say anything about it being the OEM version, just that it was 64-bit and the latest version. I have no idea where he got it from though.

    Hi

no worries just curious as no official links are at Microsoft on that build number, but forgetting all that, how did you get on with the tweaking apps?

Maybe best in all honesty going back to previous version that worked ok.

Also again just curious as I'm weekly chatting to various MSFT folk on customer perception and hands on experience of this new OS, do you like this OS, plus what and if possible give detail are your likes and dislikes of Windows 7, if you have used Vista do you think it's an improvement or not and will you be installing the final version on your pc when released?

*just if you have time and don't mind the questions, just would like your personal view*

    Cheers

    No worries mate

Downloaded the trial versions of Tweak-7 and Windows 7 Manager, also Glary Utilities and BoostSpeed. Used a few of their tweaks, and have noticed an improvement in boot times, but not really anywhere else. But then again I had only had Windows 7 running for maybe a week before hand and was still setting all my applications up, so it's hard to tell.

Would consider doing that, but the only other version I have is 32-bit and I have more than 4 gig of RAM, so might just wait till next month when my cap renews and get a different 64-bit release.

I'm finding Windows 7 to be great. I used Vista not long after it first came out and didn't like it, so switched back to XP. Installed it again more recently, and found that the service packs made quite a big difference, but it was still using far too much system resources. Though with my current machine it wouldn't be too bad, I can't see myself going back to Vista after trying Windows 7. It's got the same feel and look, without hogging system resources. Only problem I've had with it, other that Tuneup Utilities was my sound card drivers, but there's now a beta driver which works perfectly. Oh and the UAC can get annoying, but that's not a big issue. Overall I think Windows 7 is the best one yet, can't wait for the final release.

I am sure this new app will satisfy your requirements: Win7zilla

it offers tweaks with few clicks
    optimize memory, Internet connection, gaming
    clean files and registry
    change system information
    ....
