    Hey there,
First post here and somewhat of a computer idgit. Anyway, for some months now, I can't access IE. I always get "IE cannot display the webpage" I run the diagnose connection problems and it always says that everything is okie-dokie.

I really don't know what to do. I'm running Windows Vista/AOL 9.0/Comcast Cable internet.

I've already done the "connections tab" and automatically detect connection settings and got bupkis

    Please help me...

Do you launch AOL 9 to get on the internet? Sorry, I'm clueless as to how AOL fits in here simply because I've never used it.
Is your computer directly connected to the cable modem? If not, you are using a router. Are you trying to connect wired or wireless.

I'm connected wired. As far as the router goes, if the box (RCA) that comcast brought and plugged stuff into that sets on my PC, then I guess I have a router.

Cable goes from wall into little box.
Little box then is plugged into my computer.

Version of Internet Explorer? Homepage is? Default Browser is? Is Windows up to date? Tried opening the address bar in the task bar and typing in an address manually, then hit Enter? Tried using iexplore.exe in the Program Files/Internet Explorer folder? Old habits are hard to break, and sometimes getting folks to stop using AOL software is difficult, good to keep options available. How about Firefox or Opera? Answer may be a setting in Internet Options...:confused Brothers worked if you hit the Refresh button at the top after trying to load the home page in Internet Explorer...

    Thanks. IE=8
    Homepage= comcast.net (but MSN/microsoft etc don't work either)
Default Browser= IE....go figure. At least it works with AOL.
    Windows is up to date.
    Firefox doesn't work either.

As to AOL, I've been using it for 10+ years now. IF I "lose" it, won't it be a huge PITA to change over email addresses, favorite places, etc?

So AOL works but not IE nor FF so you get pages loaded if you launch AOL. Is that correct?

Time to check the firewall to see that other browsers, IE and FF, are allowed; they are probably being blocked. If you need settings, look to see how AOL, which does get on the internet is set up in your firewall, copy the info and apply it to the other browsers.

I don't even have a Firewall turned on.

I did read it, but it seems like some pretty advanced stuff.

Well, I got it fixed. Norton was blocking something, so I ran a Norton-removal-tool and everything's fine. Woohoooo
