Let me start off with saying how frustrating and ridiculous this is! I don't know what happened to trigger this but I hope it never happens again. This site seems to be the place to get the low down on how to get rid of the problems I'm having. The only programs I could get to work were root repeal and MGtools. I will attach the logs and hopefully get some info! I really appreciate any and all help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Uninstall the below software:
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only) <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: karna.dat

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Local Settings\Temp

Now see if you can get SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and ComboFix to run per the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • the SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and ComboFix logs if they ran
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Appreciate the help! The computer seems to be getting back to normal. I was able to run most of the programs except ComboFix, it gives me an error message saying that the program might of been compromised.

I ran Avenger and got a log file but it now seems that it isn't there when I go on Avenger.

I attached the logs I do have.

    Thanks again.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but no it isn't as you will see below.

You should have mentioned this in your first message as I'm sure when you tried to run ComboFix the first time, it probably told you something about a Virut infection. You should always give us exact details of problems.

I can see the reason for your problems and why ComboFix was compromised. Your logs show that your Windows Operating system files have become infected and there is no known reliable fix for this. In addition there are many many other infected files. We could spend a lot of time trying to remove this infection, but odds are that it will not work because the nature of the infection has so many executable system files infected that as soon as we fix one file, other files that are infected will almost immediately or upon the next reboot, just reinfect the files. In addition, your PC would still basically be unreliable/untrustworthy even if we manage to fix the infected files that we can see since there could be many more that we are not seeing.

The safest thing for you to do is backup your personal data immediately since your PC could possibly become unbootable at any point in time. Do not back up any executable files. This includes programs that you have downloaded since any of them could be infected.

Once you backup, you need to format partitions and reinstall Windows and all other software especially your protection software. Then install all updates for all software. DO NOT reinstall from any executable file backups you made while this PC was infected or you will just be reinstalling the infection.

I couldn't even get to the point of installing ComboFix otherwise I would of mentioned it. Is it ok to put the files that I want on an external hard drive?

That depends on what is already on the external drive and what you plan to copy to it. If the hard drive has any executable files ( like .exe, .com, .dll, .dat .scr, ...etc) they may get infected soon after you plug it into this infected system. That is assuming it is not already infected. Also if you copy any executable type files to the external hard disk, the files will most likely be infected as soon as you copy them. The end result would be that this external drive could reinfect your new installation when you restore anything from it.
