I read the sticky about dual boot. And I was wondering if that also applies to vista 64? If not could someone give me a step by step for installing Linux on my system? Vista Ultimate 64. Thanks

:cool Thanks a bunch. I used vista Disk managment to create a 20GB partition. I had a really hard time though, and had to use Perfect disk 10 free trial, to move the files, because even after smart defrag, I was getting ACCESS is DENIED, when try to create the partition. I installed UBUNTU 9.04 64bit. I haven't really gotten much of a chance to play around yet.
I have found some cool stuff for beginners, like this here...

Can you tell me if this is good info? or is there anything else I should know?
Is my computer more/less vulnerable while internet browsing? Any advice/tips/tricks would be great. I am switching to Ubuntu to play around. :cool

I am following that website instruction on the 13 things that need to be done after installing Ubuntu... and I am trying to install Avast.. But I am getting an error message.. I am quite sure it is the wrong version, it says
    " dpkg: error processing avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb"
I think this avast version is for 32 bit, since it says i386, but I can't find any instruction on how to install avast for 64 bit.. :confused

the 'i386.deb' part of it tells me it is for 32 bit. I don't know if they have a 64-bit version. Do you have a particular reason for wanting an antivirus.

Regardless, I heard that clamAV is a good antivirus. You can install it by typing 'sudo apt-get install clamav' into a terminal. Not sure if it has an active scanner.

Well the only reason I was going to install avast is cause I was reading this blog about the 13 things you should do after installing ubuntu...
    http://linuxondesktop.blogspot.com/2007/02/13-things-to-do-immediately-after.html
But this was for 32 bit and I really don't know what applies to 64 bit. I did manage to get my codecs installed, jand I got Java and Flash player. One more thing, Will I be able to play games like,Neverwinter nights, or Anno 1404 on Ubuntu? After reading about Ubuntu and viruses, I guess I don't rally need anything, but I did manae to get Bitdefender installed. Here are the instructions I followed. http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2009/...antivirus-on-ubuntu-with-1-year-free-license/
    Thanks for the help

While you probably could get Neverwinter Nights to play in Ubuntu, it is typically easier to play windows games in windows
