An email message was downloaded to Outlook that does not have any From or Subject information. It is 1mb in size.

Outlook will start, but then freeze and eventually display “Not Responding”.

I’ve tried the new outlook.pst name and import fix. I have also used “scanpst.exe”.

Is there anyway I can delete what I believe to be the corrupt message from the pst file?

Of course, my backup pst file is over a month old. :cry

i am not sure if this will help but if this is the only message in the inbox within the outlook the program have you tried deleting the inbox dbx file.when you restart outlook this file will be recreated.

I actually have other email in the pst file that I want to save. I am just looking for suggestions regarding how to delete a single message. Outlook does start, but then immediately hangs. The last email in the queue is the suspect message.

Are we talking Vista or XP? In Vista there may be a way, but not in XP I fear.

    It's XP.

Any apps that would allow me to edit a PST file? There seem to be a few, but I am not sure if they provide for any edits.

I received a suggestion to try Outlook Express, and it worked. :confused

The suspect email message does not appear in Express, but does in Outlook. Any chance this message is a virus?

i have a friend who had a similar problem when an email was stuck in the inbox causing the program to crash the only solution was to delete the inbox dbx file that's why i suggested it but if you have other emails still in the inbox this would delete them also.not sure of the setup for outlook 2002 i have never used this program i have always used outlook express.the message that has caused this may be corrupt not necessarily a virus just faulty if it was infected surely your AV would have picked it up when it was downloaded.

The reason it doesn't appear in Outlook Express is because it has already been downloaded from the pop server and stored in (and corrupted) your .pst file. None of the other messages in your .pst folder will appear in OE either, for the same reason.

I know of no way to clean up your .pst file. If you haven't been backing it up you may lose all of its contents, including your calendar I think.

You can try a popular Outlook recovery tool called Advanced Outlook Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
    Good luck!

I've had problems like this also...that is before I shifted to Kaspersky, which is great at catching viruses in emails.

Normally I go to the server, in my case I go to my webmail account for outlook and delete the message from there.
