Anybody here have African Violets? I was just wondering, what makes them "neck out"? I'll take some pics shortly, and post them so you can see what I mean....

The plants are blooming, look fine, but they have "necks" that come out of the soil and the flowers and leaves are on top of that.. I am wondering if it is the "Crown" coming up out of the ground? Has me baffled.....:confused

Anyway, I picked some leaves off of them, to start new ones, so eventually they will be removed totally...... In the meantime, I'll see if I can get some decent pics of them. ;)

    How old are they?
How long have they been in the pots?
Have seen some so root-bound that the root ball was shoving them up and out.

Ok As far as I can see the pic is a little small but even if you did up pot it needs a wider pot and the roots need more room to grow down. So if when you up potted and there wasn't enough room for the roots to grow or if the dirt was packed too hard it may cause it to do this. They like to spread out. At least mine did. So try a wider pot and put the plant as much in the center as possible. It looks like the roots but really can't tell.

Thanks, BT, that is a start... What you are looking at, is the neck of the darn thing..... It is just so gnarly.... Those aren't roots, but remnants of old leaves..... I am stating new ones, from the leaves, as I did re-pot to a 6 inch pot, but they just don't seem to like that one.. They crawl right over the side, like they are lacking in sun.. NOT all of them, but a few.... My neighbor says they are probably trying to crawl out of the pot! :confused

I don't think there is much hope left for this one, but maybe some of the others I can repot.

Hey TC I think I may have found the problem and if not you can do a better search here http://www.optimara.com/doctoroptimara.html The pic is showing them growing over one side possibly trying to get the sunlight. Just have alook see at the site and see if it helps. If not I'll find another.:-D
