What would the world be like right now if were still in the now without technology? & by that I mean electronics such as tv, phones, pcs, etc. Just living with the general stuff like knives, plates, wheels, etc.

I think Britney Spears would be wearing lions cloths which I would still find attractive. Lol!

If we didn't know about technology and lived with the basics we would know no difference and would be likely doing fine, now if we resorted to basic living now then the global economy would colapse and many would find it difficult to cope, social unrest would start and anarchy would reign.

But knowing past history, technology would at some point be created in some form.

That reminds me of a great joke. Will tell it in the Jokes thread.

As for lack of technology. Society would descend into chaos, like Halo states. Most people wouldn't know where to start. Bear Grylls and Ray Mears would be our new gods. Leaders of the world. :-D

Could be a really interesting concept, just to see if humans could survive.

Well, take this into consideration. If all technology magically disappeared or however you want it to happen, the world would indeed be in chaos. Maybe not the whole world obviously, but technology dependent countries definitely would crumble. Think about everything that has to do with technology, from street lights to data centers that hold terabytes worth of peoples personal data. Bank accounts, school records, hospital records, credit card records, you name it. thats definitely a world i dont want any part of now that we're so dependent on technology. 40 or 50 years ago we could have been ok maybe, but now? No way dudes.

    ^ Agreed

It would be like one of those end of the world sci fi movies. Destruction and chaos.

short term, I would be out of a job.

obvious answer that no one has stated yet, we wouldn't be discussing the issue on this web site.

long term, depends on the level of tech that was left. tell you right now, billions of people would die from starvation.

Food riots in three days and hopefully the farmers will be able to fend off the hungry city folk after that by having stocked up on AK-47s with ammo and have a green farm because no electricity or oil. Like Laura said, Armageddon. Only the people of the land would have a chance of survival long term. The premise is not that far fetched, kill the oil or hack the power plants to cut electricity.

Hey 7 billion of us for 2011. Is that insane or what?:eek We are not too far from a collapse IMO. Wars over oil and water will dominate. We need to cull the herd but no one has the balls to do it, nature will take care of all that as it always has.:( The age of raping the earth is near it's end. Have a nice day all.:-D

Most Armageddon theories are horribly overdone and inaccurate. If the worlds technology where destroyed it would surely lead to many problems, but it would be rebuilt and we would move on (eventually).

On a side note, most post-apocalyptic genera movies (madmax and the like), while interesting, are kind of ridiculous. Humans invariably form communities for mutual support and defense. The roaming bands of raiders and highway warriors would be exterminated much like they were in the “old west”. (Not that it’s not an interesting topic, anyone play the Fallout games?) Given enough time society would end up just like it is now, as long as there where enough people to maintain a stable breeding population… but that’s a bit beyond the topic so I’ll digress.

EDIT: oh ya 7 billion...crazy. Since we're on the topic of major catastrophies we should all educate ourselves http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrying_capacity

I disagree that they are ridiculous and over done. Not saying it'd be like it is in the movies LOL, but it would be disasterous. All you have to do is look at the chaos and total mob mentality a few times when cities have had blackouts (here's one example: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2007/07/dayintech_0713). That's just 1/10000 of what it would be if all tech stopped working. You can't compare the Wild West where there were very few people and never even experienced a phone and the world as it is today and what would happen if tech all the sudden was gone.

    Welcome to MGs, btw. ;)

I wasn’t suggesting that it wouldn’t be terrible but it wouldn’t be terrible forever. When people talk about “armageddon” they seem to forget the Armageddon means the END (ya, I’m ignoring the biblical interpretation). There are very few events, natural or artificial, that would permanently destroy human civilization. It would bounce back and I think it would do so quickly (relative to the extent of the catastrophe of course)

As far as my Wild West example, I only meant that mobs aren’t the only ones that can throw bombs and shoot guns. The general public won’t tolerate anarchy for extended periods. It’s only a matter of time before you see groups of shopkeepers throwing firebombs to defend their storefront.

Don’t misinterpret me here, I’m not talking up homo sapiens or anything (personally I’m indifferent to them) but we have to keep things in perspective. Humans can be the dumbest animal you’d ever see but we can also be very tolerant of changing conditions.

EDIT: Thanks for the welcome :)

It would be horrible and boring,no entertainment:( As has been mentioned starvation and unemployment would be rife people would be killing each other for as loaf of bread as they were hundreds of years ago.

The worst thing would be in hospitals, practically all the serious illness and life saving equipment is electronic so death and disease would also be rife, due to no communication emergency calls wouldn't be answered, people would be burning alive in fires, drowning, dying when an ambulance is needed.

All the modern computer controlled industry would shut down,Limited or No petrochemical products or raw chemicals for things such as soap, detergent and no plastics.

Since everything these days is made from using robots or CNC 'computer numerical controlled' machines practically every production company would shut down over night leading to mass unemployment.

It would be Biblical, the only way to survive in that environment is for every person to have their own small holding where they can grow their own crops, people living in blocks of flats wouldn't fair too well:-D
