So hi, my first post here and the 3rd or 4th tech help forum I'm trying...

So I have this problem with my new speedtouch router. It won't let me get on the access page the 192.168.1.254 is used for mine in here.. Anyway as I said I can't get on the page because it rejects the username and password.

Now to avoid being frustrated beyond belief I'll try and list everything I've tried and everything I've been asked before ( that was a waste of time since it wasn't the problem ) so we can avoid giving useless advice, that I've already tried or asking something as in '' are you sure you are typing it right? ''

What I've tried; reset, setting the IP static so I can go on through another address, different browsers & cmd telnet, calling my ISP (who provided the router) to confirm that I am trying to get in with the right username and password

And the most glorious test I did was that I got a 2nd 585v7 router and a lap top from a friend and the miracle is that both of those routers can get on from the lap top but neither from my computer - and before you say firewall stop and hit yourself with a facepalm because that isn't it.

So to be more clear again; routers are 100% right with firmware etc, there is NO FIREWALL ISSUE, I KNOW the username & password are right ( the password by default is the modem access code ) and OBVIOUSLY I've tried if the username is lowercase or uppercase ( by my ISP its adminstrator in lowercase ) and I've tried leaving the username or password blank and so on and on.

Hi Saarlane, relax or you'll never get it fixed ;)

Ok, the router is accessible via a different PC, that should rule out a problem in the router, right?

Did the laptop use the same cable that you are connecting with on the PC? If so, that leaves us with only your PC, now we need to rule out software interference :)

Try accessing your router from Safe Mode with networking.

So let's get this straight. You can access the router's configuration page since when you type in 192.168.1.254, a box opens asking for username and password.

The issue you are having is to do with the username and password.

Have you changed the default username/pasword, if not then try the following

    username: Administrator
    password: leave blank

If all else fails, just reset the router to factory default via the hole at the back.

    Good Luck

We did use the same cable for the different PC

And I'll try safe mode when I get home later tonight

Ahh it seems I can't edit.. My own posts..

So anyway I tried safe mode with networking but OFC it didn't change anything, still can't get access

I'm assuming this means this means you have the same problem with a 2nd identical router but using a borrowed laptop, you can successfully login to both routers, correct? So if I'm reading this correctly, the problem must be with your PC.

Can you empty your browser cache, cookies, history, etc. use Ccleaner

You're adamant that it is not firewall related, have you NEVER had any firewall installed? (some of these are very difficult to uninstall fully)

    What about other security applications?

Could you try using Simple Port Forwarding to access some of the settings in your router by creating a new forwarding rule, please.

You really have to think positively in situations like these ;) being negative helps no-one. You reached the login page but had the same result?

y you are correct and I've already tried that regarding the browsers, and it hardly matters if I try to go through cmd telnet.

And yes to your other question and nothing about other apps that relate to networking..

And I can't think positively because beep like this happens to me all the time, and so far I have yet to find one single indication to it being my fault; i.e powerblock randomly died, monitor software randomly erased (I had it under warranty and even the manufacturer HAD NO CLUE what happened so atleast I got a new one), trillions of problems with programs & games that easily fit requirements and so on and on, the list is very long and after trying 3 tech forums and having people try to help you who don't bother to read your OP its not possible to stay positive

And as such I must say to the 2 other guys posting here.. I stated in the OP that I called my damn ISP who supplied me the router to confirm that I am trying to get in with the right logins.. And obviously I would've tried leaving the password blank or seeing if it works in uppercase.....

All those things (and the computers they should work on) are created by people, flawed people just like you and me, as such, they are almost certain to be flawed in some way :)

Please do try to think positive, it really will help you in troubleshooting and finding workarounds for problems like these. Trying to find fault or apportion blame is also very negative - STOP IT.
    lecture mode /off

Did you try to set a port-forwarding rule?

satrow y I tried but when I send the update to my router its the same old access denied.

Also digital man I read every post in its entirety I just don't reply to the people who go around everywhere posting the most simple advice you get on every forum just so they could seem smart, however helpful they may think they are being, they are not.

Instead of going around and posting the obvious try to be like satrow and give a grain of hope that somebody cares to try and give you a few more answers that you don't hear from every other person with 1 grain of knowledge.

Anyway I've done more googleing but I haven't come up with anything useful or new.. And since I am not knowledgeable enough to know what could be wrong with my PC that stops me from getting on the router.... I'm quite frankly stuck.

Ok, how about you attach a HijackThis log, that may showup something that's installed on your PC which may be causing this issue.

In looking over your first post, I see several things wrong.
I've fired up my XP just to be sure I can do an accurate comparison.
    1. DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : lan
You don't want it to search your local are network. This should be your ISP.
The ISP should have supplied you with the DNS IPs.
If you aren't sure what to use, you can use Open DNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

    2. Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Yours has nothing. It should again have your ISP.
For some reason, your computer is searching for a DNS on the local network and not using the ISP.

    3. Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : No
    try Yes, rather than no.

I just noticed you have two listings for ethernet adapter. What is the Hamachi device? Do you have two RJ 45 connectors in your computer?
I own a computer that has two and by trial and error, I discovered one will allow me on the internet, the other won't. (The computer was recycled from a doctor's office and I suspect the one adapter was installed for networking, possibly on a vpn). I simply put tape across the one connector so if I moved the computer, I wouldn't plug the cable into the wrong connector.
