My kid brought me her laptop (Acer 5515) that she says she bought in February of this year,(Against MY advice), and says that it won't start up. This is what I know about it:

I plug in the charger cord, open the top, and push the start button. The light turns on, the hard drive starts to spin, for a few seconds, and then it all shuts off. There is a power light that stays on, on the charger cord. She originally thought it could be the charger cord, but I don't think so, because the light on it stays on, and it doesn't warm up. Could be the battery, but it seems kind of new for that to be the issue. She "says" it was working fine, "until all of a sudden......" (Ugghhhh!!!!) I get the same results, whether the charger cord is plugged in or not.

I've gone to Acers' website, and the only recommendations that they had was to "reset" the unit, (which I did, to no avail), and that otherwise, the laptop might need to be serviced. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. Here is a link to the laptops' product page for more technical information if that helps any:

I have had several Acer laptops over the years, and have been quite satisfied with them. The only brands I consider buying (for myself) are Acer and Toshiba. My current laptop is an Acer TM 5720.
The issue you describe certainly sounds like the battery to me. If she bought it in February, I would suggest she contact Acer to have them replace the battery. I cannot remember what the original warranty on the battery should be, but I would think more than 6 months!

    Best of luck!

    Hi

Try removing the battery and then plug in the mains cable and see if the laptop will power up?

Would also contact ACER support on this as laptop is less than 12mths old.

    Agree with Halo here.

Sounds like it isn't getting the power it needs, possibly a broken mainboard connector.

Thanks People! I took Halo's advice, and tried to start it without the battery in it, and got NOTHING! And didn't like it. LOL So, it's off to Acer we go...:wave Yep, it attempts to start WITH the battery in, and does absolutely nothing with just the charger cord attached, and no battery.

    Thanks again for your help!
