Is Bit torrent bad software to have?

My daughter wants bit torrent to download music files. Is it bad software that will use my computer as a bot? Its the one with the micro symbol prefix to torrent.

She used it last night and got a trojan infection, Total Security. I got it cleaned from the Read Me first post instructions.

I didn't have all the recommended firewalls and blockers.

Should I allow use of this program?

 

Hey goodtexan, Bit-torrent in itself is not bad at all, infact it is an extremely efficient way to transfer to files] and the torent client you are referring to is from a well respected and trusted company, so no it is not "going to turn you computer into a bot" BUT downloading music files from torrent sites is almost always illegal, and many illegal files are known to contain malware [virii, trojans, etc] so letting your daughter DL random files is a bad idea.

Bittorrent is not a bad program itself its just what you download causes the problems some of the music files or other files contin viruses in them and they infect your computer when you download them

just becareful in what you download and get a good anti virus program and firewall which helps the computer from being attacked.

 

one other thing, make sure you download utorrent from the correct place, and not by just doing a random search for a torrent client.
