Hi everybody I wonder if any off you can explain this too Me
a Few months I ago I brought this brand New Dell inpiration(sp?) Lap top 4gb memory
everything was working fine until a few days ago where My browser froze up and just wouldnt close
that wasnt all I found out that the computer wouldnt close and there was a opaque white screen that comes on the monitor. and i have to switch off by the switch button and not by the the one by the starter button at the bottom of the screen.
i tried to install the following but everytime the screen freezes up and the download doesnt complete.
however saying that i did manage to download malebyes and ccleaner .. even when i started running the ccleaner it would stall.
but after several atempts i manage to get it working and ran the malebytes scan which showed nothing... in the end i had resort to system restore and start over thinking that it could be the machine and not maleware ... everything is fine now but i would like to know what it was and how to prevent it from happening

i have the following an windows defender which was turned off due the mcafee security which was installed with this machine
now i have norton 360 and the windows defender turned on
i could send you the scan results if you think its necessary
    awaiting your reply
ps if this is in the wrong place i appoligize but i dont know what it was..

No process is absolutely perfect but the below is a great start:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

Also as noted in the above, you (and other users of the PC) are the most important part of you security.

Did you get all of McAfee removed before installing Norton 360.

Note that using System Restore does not necessarily remove malware. In many cases it just can lesson the symptoms caused by the malware but the malware may be laying there dormant for now. There is no proof at this point that your problems were even malware, but if you want to check for any remaining malware, run the cleaning procedure and attach all of the logs.

    Hi Richard_Reekie,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

I can assist you with Norton 360 and chaslang will be able to analyze the logs files you posted.

Since you previously had the McAfee Security suite installed, you will definitely want to go to McAfee's website to download an run the removal tool to make sure that all of the components are removed. Otherwise, you may be experiencing a software conflict. After you run the McAfee removal tool, open Norton 360, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates". If any updates are installed, restart your computer and then repeat the process until you are notified that there are no more updates available. The LiveUpdate process and the new "Pulse Updates" feature will run automatically in the background going forward when your computer is idle.

In regards to Windows Defender, although some users have it running alongside Norton 360 and do not experience problems, I would recommend that you disable it to avoid any software conflicts.

Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding Norton 360.

    Thank you,
    Mike

I don't know what you mean by "still wont print out". And what is the exact error you are getting? However none of this really matters anyway since your logs are not showing any malware.

Since your logs are clean, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
