    Has anyone seen it?

We went last night to watch it.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but that wasn't it. I think I was expecting a lighter sci fi movie. This had a pretty heavy message going on.

All in all it was really interesting and fairly intense....and sometimes stomach turning disgusting.

Just curious what anyone who's seen it has to say.

Haven't seen it and am afraid it will be too gory for me to enjoy it. I think the premise of it sounds great though and the website for it is pretty cool. Click!

Laura, was the base of the plot sorta like a modern day segregation of minorities, visualizing their plight?

It is very gory. I have to say, I'm usually pretty immune to stuff and it was a bit more than my stomach could take at times.

The message was definitely going towards the whole idea of segregation and apartheid.

I'm not going to give any details, but it's odd how your opinion changed in regards to the aliens as the movie goes on.

It was really well done, I thought.

lol...then you must have loved this one. ;)

I'm glad my daughter told us she didn't want to see it. It's rated R, but I thought sci fi and a little gore, wouldn't be horrible. It was definitely not ok for her.

I watched District 9, today. Cross 'Alien' with Apartheid and you're getting pretty close to what this is about. A good sci-fi that holds the viewer's attention i.m.o., with a few twists in the plot. Plenty of 'gratuitous violence' and gore, too, eh :major;)

I like it a lot, but I found myself laughing inappropriately at some part, just because of the voices of the actors or what not.

The oppressive "racism" is in your face during the movie though.

Trivia point, the movie was shot in a real refuge camp as they were doing exactly what was going on in the movie. That is why it looks so real.

I'll certainly go see it as it's Peter Jackson doing it on a comparatively small budget and more than doubled revenue/budget whereas G.I. Joe and Transformers are still in the red.

Nope. I think they are deserved. IMDb reviewers are giving it high marks too and those are just viewers.

It is not your run of the mill sci fi movie. More political statement with a sci fi twist. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, particularly if you were going for a light movie, but it was well made.

I had no idea it was done in a real camp. You're talking about all the shacks and such in District 9?

yeah, the refuge camp in District 9 was supposedly shot in a real refuge camp that was being relocated for the exact same reasons as the District 9 camp was being emptied.

EDIT: the only non-real camp building used was Christopher's shack, for obvious reasons.

Dang, Tim, you sound like me! Man, we got digital TV, and a DVD Recorder, BUT only 3 channels, and no cable, no satellite! I also refuse to pay for it..

I just can't wait until winter, when the snow and ice start to fly, and it washes out the darn signal :confused Yup, that is gong to be fun....

I have talked to the satellite companies, and they want more than we make! As long as we have the HUGE antenna on my house, I will still get my soap opera! roflmao THAT is important!!! :-D
