    Hi Tony,

You must have a fairly good turnout of people then and yes it's about enriching community life and a sense of belonging not just living. (Hope that makes sense). Some people need it and others don't. Some of our gatherings are only small <12 people but laughter and friendship in plenty of supply.

Another thing I forgot was this - let's say a restaurant will give vouchers for prizes where the holder of the voucher can buy one meal and get a second for half price. A popular prize or raffle with the men in particular :-D(brownie points with the mrs)

So will the laptops be for general community use? in the Hall?
We did have a community use computer originally at the General Store, it was moved to the School, which means can only be used during school hours and utilizing their www access, I don't know how much it got used though. There are organisations in our next largest town that will run courses for computing and tai Chi and such - some are free, most not.

Had to have a wry smile at this. In broad terms that statement is true but underlying that I'm still considered a bit of an outsider, I've only lived here 15 years - somethings never change.

Your most welcome and right back at you, our community is too small for your entire photography display idea to work but I can see a variation of it working for our Fair, will have to put the suggestion to the committee.

    Hi Paramonks
Usually there are about 50 or 60 at afternoon teas or coffee mornings, and I imagine it’ll be the same as your community; same old faces doing the work, same moaners criticising. There are always doers and always moaners. One of our local pubs has donated a voucher for a couple of meals, Our Lord Mayor, (we are the only village in Europe with a Lord Mayor). has donated £40 worth of book tokens.
Yes the laptops will be for everybody to use, the local borough council are going to provide tutors, recently I got them to work with a parent and toddler group, making up stories with the kids and their parents, it turned out great.
We did have a group of the more mature people on a tech music course, 5 ladies, only one of with had a computer, 5 blokes who, of course knew everything there was to know about music and computers. The laughter from the ladies group was marvellous to hear, the cursing and swearing from the men was something else. In the end the girls (average age 68) produced a tune, the guys failed miserably.
Hope the committee adopts the suggestion,

    BEST OF LUCK

Like, why don't you try and tap into your feminine side? Then you'd realise the hurt and anguish you are causing to our female shrinking violets.

    Yeah, right. ;)

Ever heard the expression that if you don't want to be kicked, then don't spread your legs...? :p

Okay, I will be serious for a moment.

Of course the thread was serious. Then you made yourself a target by stating that we were banned from the competition because we're female. A few posts later you made it clear that you were trying to joke, so we decided to joke back, and at the same time try to express that we didn't like the joke very much.

Bottom line: You're dancing right on top of the the very fine line between what's acceptable and what is going too far. Be careful not to cross it. It will get very ugly if you do.

You see, you have to earn the right to get away with these things. And you still haven't. Make sense?

Sorry Girls is very obviously not enough, therefore, I humbly apologize if I in any way angered or irritated you, Yes Mimsy I did ban the very beautiful TEECEE and your good self, and yes it was as a joke, and obviously not an acceptable one, I thank you for enlightening me on the use of smilies, I will endeavour to curb my unacceptable behaviour in future. :wave

Yup. It's terrific to see someone else get some heat from the sorority for a change. I could learn a thing or two about grovelling from Tony, though. A master bum kisser in action :-D
@ bigtrucks. Where were you when the sisters needed a hand to emasculate Tony? Not that they didn't do an effective job on their own, but the triumverate is much more effective when there's three of you. MacBeth's witches spring to mind. No offence. ;)

    Hi Paramonks!
Thought I'd fill you in on that afternoon tea we had. Lots of the ladies (the sort that dont shout at me) baked for the event, strawberry and cream scons, bara brith, bakwell tart, fairy cakes, apple pies maids of honour and all sorts of beautiful cakes, sales of damson jam (jelly to the folks from over the big pond) crabaaapple jelly About 40/50 people turned out, we ended up making just over £400. lots of nice people enjoying each other, I'm nackered now though, but this large gin and tonic should fix it
