I want to Know if you can partion another OS w/ Ubuntu other than Wins. In other words what other OS can I use w/ Ubuntu?? I am tired of dealing w/ Wins and all the tweaking problems it has. I figured that over the pass 10 years of having Wins and all the software addons, I have spent well over a thousand dollars. It makes me sick :puke
to think of all that money wasted and I am still no better off. Most of you probably spent twice that much. If we could have spent that money on Linux we would have been better off and Linux would put Microsoft out of business.

If someone knows of another OS that can be Partioned w/ Ubuntu please let me know. Otherwise I will stay with Ubuntu alone. Thanks for your replies.

You can dual boot with any of them, as each OS will be on its own partition, the GRUB or LILO boot loader will handle the rest for you.

Wins does have its advantages, but have to concur about the cost of additional software. Open source is the way I have been going. Need to learn the ins and outs of the software, but most things done with Windows at a cost can be done with Linux for little or no expense. I use PCLOS 2009 (Mandriva based) after experimenting with a plethora of different distributions, mainly due to its ease of use, and the ease of configuring a wireless connection. It is simple to back up using makelivecd (or DVD). No disk defrag is another benefit of using Linux, but I still always run a firewall, and an anti virus (Avast) on occasion. On the Windows 7 PC am using GRUB to dual boot, with XP I use ntldr after adding PCLOS to the boot.ini. and copying the pclosboot.lnx file to the root of Windows using a command similar to this: dd if=/dev/hda3 of=./pclosboot.lnx bs=512 count=1. There are many programs available to help out with a dual boot such as EasyBCD, it works well with Vista. Like you I would rather spend my time learning to use a new OS than my money on software that is usually over priced, and doesn't always give the desired result. This Windows junkie prefers KDE, but Gnome is said to be the better of the two. PCLOS uses both, but the UI is KDE, although there is a Gnome edition as well as a Mini edition available.

You partition your hard drive and can install whatever OS you want on the partitions. Some people have five different flavors of linux.

It's your computer. What do you want to do to make it usable? If you state what you need, then we can look for apps that accomplish what you need to do.

I have two hard drives in my desktop. Two versions of windows are on the master hd and PCLinux is on the slave drive. I used a linux live CD to partition the master hd to install another version of windows. PCLinux handles the botting. I can choose if I want windows or linux. If I select windows, I can choose which of the two I want to boot.
There are programs in windows I need to use so I'm not about to wipe off windows completely.

I have gweled installed in linux. http://sebdelestaing.free.fr/gweled/
It's exactly the same as bejeweled, I know because I paid for bejeweled in windows. gweled is free and doesn't require an internet connection to play.
gweled is in the Debian repository, that's what is on my eeepc. Look in the Ubuntu repos, it is probably in there too.

I did not realize that Big Fish had online games. I've purchased a few of their games. I'll head over and see if I can play any. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be wasting a lot of time if it works. :-D

Big Fish, won't work for me.
I refuse to install an activex plugin for FF and make it less secure.
    Turns out it wouldn't help...

my main operating system is mandriva 2008 with kde3, but i also have 2009.1 and 2010 (but this is not a main release yet) installed, but i'm not a big fan of kde4 and dolphin

due to me being a tight wad, my graphics card runs best on 2008 and i can't be bothered buying a new one until it fails, which will be in the near future as my windows is beginning to complain :-D - then i'll do a full upgrade to 2009.1

mandriva linux one is mandriva 2009.1

oh - it should work, but as in everything, there is no guarantee
