Just curious... Any of you into making homebrewed beer? I am in my second year of the hobby, and having a blast! I just entered two batches in a contest at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. Judging is Aug 29.

I guess you're a scratch brewer then, I never would have had the patience. Most I do is add some hops when I feel like it to a store bought extract. Good luck on the judging! I'm sure it tastes great! http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/17.gif

me and my friends decided to brew our own beer..... disasterous consequences. someone decided that it wouldnt be strong enough and added ethanol to it, one of the guys ended up in A&E :/
    never again

What's A&E? It's a cable channel over here. Anyways, I was able to get the alcohol up to %8 but it tasted real bad. I don't know what the commercial brewers do but they have decent tasting %10 beer.

However, because it's carbonated, you get real drunk, real fast!:-o Much more so than wine of the same strength. Designated driver time or pass out on floor and I'll give you a pillow and blanket!:-D

LOL, I had a feeling that was what you meant.;):-D Takes 3 weeks for an ale if you're going to carbonate it with CO2 or a couple of months in the bottle.:)

My brother-in-law and I brewed one batch of porter, but we added a Russian Mountain Ash juice to it for a unique finish.
We also brewed a nut brown ale.
We bottle the beer, and find that it takes 10 - 14 days to brew, then two weeks for the secondary fermentation (makes it carbonated). We get it about 8% alcohol, and so far, have enjoyed the taste. We haven't ended up in the ER yet, either! :-D

I will report back with results of the contest. They are not divulging results until September 20.

    Cheers! :wave
