IE8 upgrade -> No Internet explorer

Asus Eee PC 1000 HE - XP home, fully upgraded

And then I tried upgrading to IE8, resulting in no icons for Interned Explorer.

If I go to the folder Program Files, and then Internet Explorer; what I get is more or less exactly the same files and folders as on another PC with XP, but ho iexplore.exe file.

I have tried:

1. reinstalling
2. removing IE8 (using the Microsoft advice for this) and then reinstalling

OK, most of the time I am fine using Firefox, but there are those pages where IE is needed, and if I am right, I need it for IE tab in Firefox too.

Anyone know what to do?

Hi Nils

Is the install from WindowsUpdate or do you have the download files for IE8? If you don't have the download files then grab it from here http://www.google.co.uk/m/url?cd=1&...pref=6&usg=AFQjCNFhcnMUQiuMbFiEFCBRVFp8TVGA7A. And get a localised version if you need one or just English

also when installing make sure you are in admin account and that all your security apps ate disabled, especially Spybot S&D

I have tried downloading from both the Microsoft source and the Google adaptation and reinstall - no luck.

I have also tried installing with all the security disabled - no change.
