When I first turn my computer on it gets to the Windows XP screen. The loading bars go across around 5 times and then it freezes. The only way I can restart it is by turning off the power surge protector then turning it back on. Then it loads fine!

If I have to restart my computer for some reason,it doesn't freeze! Only when the computer has completely shut down. Any help would be appreciated.

Some system specs would be helpful. :)

What's the make and model of the computer, and do you know anything about your power supply? If you don't, the most important info will be printed on labels on the PSU itself. You can see them easily if you open the case.

    Microsoft Windows XP

    Home Edition Version 2002

    Service Pack 3

    Hewlett-Packard Company

Compaq Presario AMD Sempron (tm) Processor

    224 MB of RAM

I have a Belkin Surge Master Protector. I never have any problems like this until about 2 weeks ago!

Okay, that narrows it down to about 26,000 or so :p Which Presario? It's usually printed on a label on the back of the tower somewhere, or on a plaque on the front.

I couldn't find your PSU specs, but it sounds like the powersupply might be the problem. I could also be the surge protector, you can rule that out by plugging your PC right into the wall and see if the problems go away.

I will try that! Thanks. I'll let you know if that was the problem or not.

I turned off my computer with it plugged into the power surge, and it started without any problems. The next time it freezes,I will plug it into the wall outlet. Thanks again for your help.
