Hi Mick and welcome to Majorgeeks forums.

Repeatedly pressing F5 or F8 should allow you to enter Safe Mode where you can check for any recent changes or use System Restore (Start > Run > type ''msconfig'' (without the "" "") and hit Enter.

How's the weather on Ynys Môn today?

Hi mick' how far into safe mode is it getting?

Are you getting to a desktop before seeing this?

Or is it showing this on a blue or black screen?

If you can get to the desktop at all go into add/remove programs and unistall google updater, then download and run Ccleaner - http://majorgeeks.com/download4191.htm

A "boot cd" is the XP install disc or repair disc that came with the computer, if you dont have it and you cant get to the desktop even in safemode you are not in a good position im afraid :(
If you do get to the desktop, setting a chkdsk is good idea.

to do this go to run and type
and say yes to running it next time you restart the pc, but make sure to have uninstalled google updater first!

    Sorry
I ment i could get into the boot menu. And when i move the cursor to safe mode and click on it thats when that big list came up on a black screen with white writing.

The error message came up when i just restart the pc as normal and when i click on the box for said usser it freezes..
I dont have the cd and i carnt get in to the pc.
So i think what im going to do is to reformat it,Theres nothing on the pc i need so i have a go,I have learned a fair bit about pcs with this free pc i was given,IITS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN ALL ABOUT THEM..

I see mick, make sure you have the product key before you reinstall!

And you want to zero the HDD before you format, it is good for longevity.

You can use UBCD to zero the disk - http://majorgeeks.com/Ultimate_Boot_CD_d4981.html

go to "Hard disk tools" and find an opton called "active @ killdisk" it will do a two pass zero write.

This UBCD will need to be downloaded and burnt to a CD as an ISO image file NOT just like a normal data CD!

It is also a very very handy disc to have as it has a myriad of useful tools for your computer.

If you need any help just ask :)
