Can't connect to antivirus websites, cant update virus definitions......

    First off I wanted to say Thank you Major geeks! name is phib..

    Here goes the noob problem heh.

    I have just reformatted my PC a week ago because of some trojan issues.

    Now I'm having problems connecting to some Antivirus websites such as Malware, Cc cleaner, Cant update Virus Update definitions.

    The only reason I successfully installed Malware and CCleaner is using another PC.

    When I google some issues as well It going to Cant eastablish connection page may it be I.E. or Firefox.

    I have read one of threads partaining to this and it's regarding the C:\ restore issue.

    I Have no idea what to do with that, but yes if i remember it right I had run MG tools before restoring the PC.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    We did not ask for a HijackThis log but we did ask for a log from ComboFix which we still really need to properly help you. It looks to me like you never ran it. I will start a fix below but you must attach the log from ComboFix now.


    You need to uninstall Vuze Toolbar which actually installed the Ask Toobar junk you now have attached to your browser.


    Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
    Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\iLotek\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).


    Then attach the below logs:
    • the ComboFix log never attached
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    OK. I did the avenger, Done.
    CCcleaner done again.

    COmbofix for some reason when I ran it, After it rebooted the PC, I lost my internet connection. Firefox and IE says offline. SO I have to recover the PC.

    MG log again present.

    Uninstall the below software:
    Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 5 of the READ ME

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll (file missing)
    O23 - Service: ASKService - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\AskService.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: ASKUpgrade - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\ASKUpgrade.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: WMI Security Service (WMISRSV) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmisrsv.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    • Now run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
    Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

    Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )


    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Did the above and after that, I lost my internet connection all of a sudden.
