I ran SL succesfully for many months as a Premium Member with Land & L$ 20,000 in hand. Then it stopped. Numerous tickets eventually decided my graphic card was not sartisfactory. I got a new Radeon 3850 which should have worked but no go. Yes I've RTFM but seems the recommended cards are not available in UK.
Cab anyone please HELP with a NVIDEA card here that Will work? The SL recommended UK supplier haas been unhelpful.

I should add that SL refunded my charges during the time i was out and have put me on basic membership (not that it's of use at present) but I lost my land..

If you are looking for a new video card I would post in hardware with your full system specs including your PSU wattage so we can help you find a card for your system.

what was your old card? the 3850 is more than enough to run it, according to their site.

you might have not installed the correct drivers? or have old drivers still present from your old card.
try using driver sweeper to remove the old drivers, and head over to ati to get the new ones, and make sure you select the proper card and operating system from the list

here's a link to ati's UK homepage, the driver list in at the top right.

Decent of them to refund the charges, that impresses me. Too many game companies are impossible to deal with if you can't play your subscription for a long time... kudos to them :)

So. You need to make your 3850 work with Second Life? We can do that. :) Start by following smokinggun's suggestions, they're very good and swill sovle lots of driver problems. And if they don't work, post back with as much details as you can about what went wrong, and also include anything you did to try and fix things before you came here.

Thanks to all for the replies. Linden indicated the 3850 would be compatible but it was not. I did delete the old cards drivers. I also checked with Radeon that I had the latest drivers and my problem and after loading them they suggedted I tried an earlier driver version which also did not work so I loaded the latest version again - which goes like a bomb on all other programs
I do not want to simply trash the 3850 -can't afford to so want a NVIDEA for my other machine - an Ei with FX5200 which believe it or not rab SL perfectly for 8 months.
But I'll go over all these things again and try out Smoking un's suggestions. I go lots of other problems like finding a switch to run both machines on cable with one monitor but as the Doct says -Let's deal with one problem at a time!!! so I'll be around!1

Solid advice. I actually have both the AGP and PCI versions of the 3850, and they both run SL nicely . . . though I don't run the sim very often. They also run WoW and Guild Wars with very high settings with no sweat.

In addition to thesmokingun's suggestions, it might not hurt to make sure your board's chipset drivers are uncorrupted and up to date. I know some folks have had problems with the 3850 on some boards (mainly the AGP version) and the answer was updated board drivers in most cases . . . VIA chipsets seemed to be the most finicky with this card, as indicated by net chatter and some feedback I got.

If you need help with the GeForce, the Driver forum is a great place. There are some very skilled drivers people there. :)
