Not quite yet, but he's literally breathing his last. Hasn't eaten in two days, and now is so close he cannot pick up his head or talk to me. Which means I'm discovering the kick-in-the-gut factor to having used my cat's name as my screen name for the last ten years. I said good-bye a few minutes ago and told him to please let go so he can be with his brother again. Sixteen years we've been together...

Beth, I am so sorry to hear that, but as long as Sgt. Tibbs has a place in your heart, and I know he does,...he will NEVER be gone.... just absent from your sight. Hang in there Little Lady;)

There is no doubt about the fact that they become family and a part of your heart. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but just think of all the happiness he has brought to you over his life.

    ::hugs::

Hi Sgt. Tibbs, I know it is hard. I have one cat left, and she is 13, but it never gets any easier. One thing for sure, you know she had a good life. A happy life.... no suffering, no hurting, and she will be at the rainbow bridge awaiting you someday.:(

Pets are family and it hurts just as much. He's a good looking tom and I'm sure he has catted around in his younger years if he was out side;). He'll always be in your heart SGT. He looks like he has Persian in him.Had 2 orange tabbies a while back. They are with each other again also.
Will you get another some day or is he your only? some can't deal with having another pet to replace the one gone. I wait several years before getting any other pets and none of them have ever Replaced the ones I've lost. Each of them had their own personality, different from each other.I have lots of pics of mine.
I am really sorry for when he does go to be with his brother but happy for him as he will have a new life that will never end.

Never easy to say good-bye to a longtime companion.
Have had to a few times down through the years. Still remember every one of them.
Hopefully he isn't in any pain and goes peacefully, knowing that he is loved.

Thank you, everyone. Felix was gone when I got home from work today. I've just come in from laying him down to rest next to his brother.

And I've just now realized...I don't use Felix4067 here, I use his brother's name. How odd that I'd completely forgotten that. Must be the fact that I'm losing my mind.

Hi Sgt. Tibbs, no, you aren't losing your mind, just a best friend...:( My condolences. I don't think we ever really forget them.. they are always in our hearts... Many a fond memories...

He will. He will sleep well and long... on a soft blanket laying in a direct spot of sunlight, that will never again move away. And sometimes, when he feels like rolling over and really streeeeeeeetch, a kind hand will reach down and rub his neck and chest for him. And he will purrrrrrrrrr..... :cloud9

It hurts to lose pets. More than it's possible to explain to someone who has never been through it. The best memories in our life are surprisingly often connected with them.

Thank you all again. I handled the burial and everything that went along with it perfectly fine, and everything else was perfectly fine. Then my sister took me out and got me drunk. I'm guessing so I would finally stop handling the details and feel, and cry. It worked.

At this point, I'm incredibly glad I decided years ago to never have children. This is harder than anything I've ever dealt with.

Hi Sgt. Tibbs, I think yoru sister done you a favor.. Good for her and you. sleep well, he will... You done right by him, and you know you did. No, it never gets easier I am afraid... :(

    Mimsy, you are sooooo right..
Only those of us who have been thru it will understand, for sure...

Here is something that brought me comfort many times...

So sorry to hear of your loss of your long-time friend, Sgt. :(. It doesn’t get any easier with successive pets and the individual can never be replaced. You can, however always partly fill the emotional void with something. You cannot replace the dead, true - but one can always form new bonds and friendships. Being no stranger to loss at any level, I can tell you the same applies to people as well as animals. ~ Take care.

Sorry to hear this. Losing a pet is losing a family member, in my house it's certainly that way. No words can change things, just try to always remember the fun times you have shared together, not when she dug up the house plants or maybe when the clothes basket full of freshly washed clothes stood in as the litter box.

He reminded me of our Sadie. You can tell how long ago this was by the green shag carpet.
We lost her in the worst possible way. Staying with family while moving back home being away for 10 years, put her in a chicken coop thought to be secure and with her dogs on the other side of the fence, she got out anyway.
We searched for th longest time, put out reward signs. The area had lots of coyotes, but then she attacked a Malamute visiting at a neighbors once.
Maybe her and Felix hooked up ;)
    crap, now I'm crying
