Have Vista Home Premium on Toshiba Laptop Computer. Installed Microsoft Office Home & Student. Cannot email from the Word Processor as Vista Windows mail is not recognized by Office. The Email function is "Whited out" and is not accessable. Have tried many times to activate but cannot. Any ideas?

Exactly how did you try to activate it? Do you have your email acccount set up in Windows Mail and do you normally use Windows Mail for your email?

I checked with my provider, comcast.net, a broadband to make sure my windows mail was set up correctly, which it is. They are not allowed to help me with Office. I followed instructions in the options section to activate the Email function but it stlll does not work.

Again, do you normally use Windows Mail for your email? If not, how do you normally do email, just straight email (meaning nothing to do with sending a Word file)?

In order to email in Office you need a version that includes Outlook 2007. Home and Office does not have Outlook.

It is not possible to email from Word.

Earthling, I disagree. I have Office 2007 Pro installed on my Vista Home Premium laptop. Although my version of Office has Outlook, Outlook is not set as my default email client; Windows Mail is my default email client. And, if I have a Word file open, I can click the Office Button in the upper left corner of the Word window, select Send, and then choose one of several options for sending. This opens a Windows Mail panel and I can proceed to send the file as an attachment or choose one of the other Send options.

Have to take your word for that, as you can't properly test it unless you have the same version of Office as the OP. My version does have Outlook, and my default email client is Thunderbird, and if I use your method it does open TBird, but I'm wondering if Office versions that don't have Outlook are lacking some feature that is required for email, whatever client you are using.

Don't know, just speculating. However I do have contacts that use the OP's version, so I'll see if I can find out.

From the responses I've had so far it seems this problem is by no means unknown and may well relate to the absence in non-Outlook versions of Office of features required for email to work, as I speculated.

I'll come back when I've had the time to study it all, but in the meantime this unresolved thread may possibly be helpful -

Thank you for all your support. I was hesitant to alter the registry but I did run the Registry mechanic which I downloaded from your site. After I did this the Email and Send functions were available in Home Office. I was able to send Email with Windows mail without difficulty. Hooray!!!!!!

Part of that reference makes no sense. It says, "This issue may occur when Microsoft Outlook is not installed on the computer." Then, it suggests three methods of resolving the issue. The first method is to set Outlook as " the default e-mail program". So, you don't have Outlook but you're supposed to set it as the default e-mail program. Is this not complete non-sense?

Yeah, it's like asking for directions and being told 'it's best not to start from here' ;)
