How 2 fix startup stall, SvchostAnalyzer ???

startup stalls occasionally (at least daily)... usually in the middle of loading programs, and after 1 or 2 loaded, according to TaskManager.

sometimes error messages include 'svchost', but lately just stalls and no error message... just an 'hourglass' (tested all night, one time, and still no startup progress).

ran 'SvchostAnalyzer.exe', downloaded free version from MajorGeeks.

attached (i hope) is scan report jpg...

    1. 'svchost', id = 1196, file = <Access denied. Run program as Adminstrator>", group = <no microsoft file>, services = 0

was logged in as adminstrator when ran svchostanalyzer.exe if that makes any difference

    2. 'svchost', <not active>, services = 38

list of 'services' include 'Universal Plug and Play Device Host', 'Security Center', 'Automatic Updates'

    should/how activate #2. ?

    suggestions ?

form what i can gather with the attachment you are missing the hidserv.dlll or it can not be located. you can try and download and install this file from here " http://www.dll-download-system.com/dlls-download-h-/hidserv.dll.html ". it gives you instructions on where to put this file and how to register it.
    hope this helps good luck.

Thank you for the reply and info !
Was thinking of running a 'repair' from the XP install disk, would that replace the hidserv.dll file ?
Just thinking I may have deleted some other files over the years and would be good to run some sort of XP 'repair'.
    Thoughts ?

i was just about to suggest for you to run the error check function to correct any problems with your system files.at the moment i think a repair install would be a bit extreme. if click on start then click on run type cmd then in the window that appears type chkdsk c:/r and follow the prompts you will have to schedule for next restart so type y hit enter then restart your computer and the scan will run from there.hope this helps good luck.

    Thanks for the reply !

Ran 'chkdsk', and after the 5 stages... "the volume is clean".

Also downloaded hidserv.dll and copied to WINDOWS/system32.
Then ran 'regsvr32 hidserv.dll' and got message...
"hidserv.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered"

At the Microsoft site got this info...
for 'Dllname was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer or DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found.'
Dllname is not a .dll or .ocx file. For example, typing regsvr32 wjview.exe generates this error message.

Also browserd the following suggestion ...
"Two steps if this isn't a hard-named/certificate created DLL (i.e. for pushing into the global assembly cache):
    1) Use regasm with the /tlb option, example: regasm mydll.dll /tlb:mydll.tlb
    2) Push the dll into the working directory of the executable. If in design mode, this will be where the VB6.EXE is located (default is like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98). For compiled executables, just drop it in the same directory as the executable or where you launch if you launch with a shortcut.
The above steps will go away once you've finalized the dll, hard-named/certificate and put into the global cache.
As you modify your dll/debug/test, be sure to also unregister first before re-registering so your registry doesn't get too bloated (regasm /unregister mydll.dll). You'll need to re-register/copy into the target directory each time until you make it a global assembly."

Not sure I understand all of the message, but sounds like may need to 'run' "regasm hidservl.dll /tlb:hidserv.tlb" ?

    Thoughts ?

it is unusual that regsvr32 wouldn't register this dll file doing more research on this type of issue this may be malware related have you ran any of the suggested scans in the read and run me guide found here " http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 ".
it may be a good idea to go through these steps just to be sure and rule out any malware cause for this issue before going any further, this may help.

    Thanks for the reference !
A pretty long list... but looks pretty thorough.

One part links to an MG thread by 'Major Attitude' recommending a CCleaner run.
Have looked at CC b4, and it seems to not offer much in the way of alternatives, unlike WiseCleaner/s (separate for registry and hd) ?

Also, sometimes I think running these 'cleaners' may have gotten me here with all the questions :(
What do you think of CCleaner vs WiseCleaner/s ?
Safe to go with their recommendations for 'fixes' ?

Also am running 'Malwarebytes', 'AdAware' and 'WindowsMaliciousSoftwareTool' on a weekly basis.

sorry for the late reply was race day here yesterday and was glued to the idiot box all day. can't really comment on wise cleaner as i haven't used that program.as for ccleaner i have used this program for as long as i can remember, it is one of the safest that i know of in fact i trust the program that much i don't even bother keeping back ups of the changes it makes.although i have backed up my registry with erunt just in case.i have been fairly lucky with my computer i have really never had many issues.

    Thanks again !
Downloaded ERUNT, and ready to run CCleaner.
Any particular section we should give priority... considering the origin of all this, 'svchost' etc :) ?

with ccleaner you should run the registry tool with all options ticked you may have to run this several times to completely remove all errors. with erunt leave creating a back up until all the issues you are having are fixed other wise you will only back up the problem you are having so when all is running smooth and no issues the run erunt to back up registry hive.
