Where In The World Is Abby San Diego

Have received several emails from folks asking about Abby's absence from the board, so I thought this would be the easiest way to bring folks up to date. She had some surgery this past Monday, pretty delicate surgery actually, for a Cholesitoma and mastoiditis, an infection near the lining of the brain. Also, a small potion of her skull was removed along with rebulding of her ear drum. Mayo Clinic did their usual fantastic job and other than some temporary hearing loss she's progressing nicely. She was pretty nervous about the surgery even though she had similar surgery on her left ear several years ago, but she chilled out after she heard me talking to her surgeon. He told me he'd be operating on her brain; I asked since he was in the neighborhood, would it be possible to put more in. She will need additional surgery in 6 to 12 months to reconstruct her inner ear.

I'm sure she'll be back contributing soon as she's getting a bit restless. She asked me today if we were going to the Air Show at the Navy Base this year. I told her with her hearing, she would think all they had this year were gliders.

Thanks to those that voiced concern; we appreciate it. She's a tough little cookie and I'm real proud of her.

Even with the surgery, I'm sure she's keeping You on your toes, star. ;)

Put more in while in the neighborhood?:confused
If I heard that kind of question, I would recover just to annoy the person who said it.:-D:-D:-D:wave

Seriously, though. Best wishes for a full recovery.

Nah, Abby's a wuss. She'll get better for no other reason than to go shopping. :)

Thank you for posting. Was getting a little worried as no word since her surgery. Very good to know that she came thru just fine. What a relief. I hope they gave you extra knock out pills. ( You may need them...LOL).

    Hidden?
No. May be the incentive needed to recover.

    TeeCee MajorGeek

Incentive? Not really, until her hearing returns, she won't hear that salesman when he is telling her they are NOT on sale :p :-D

You know how deaf people always speak louder than anybody else?
Might get them at sale price, just so the other customers think he is getting chewed out and arguing.
If they think that, they might head for the door.

Thanks for the update, Chris. Yeah, I had wondered what happened to Abby lately. Nice to hear she's in such good hands. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Take care, all.:)

Thanks for your nice comments, I know she appreciates them as do I. We are headed to Mayo Clinic this morning for the post-surgical bandage removal fiesta and that should give her even more relief.

And to clarify, Abby's not deaf. She's just dealing with some temporary hearing loss due to the trauma of the surgery. She can hear things, just not little things like gnat farts. It will just take a bit more time for the recovery to complete but her hearing will be fine.

And nice to hear from you Barry. I guess one of the negatives for blowing off message boards is I don't get to communicate much with good friends like you. But then again, look at the money you're saving by not buying a ton of girl scout cookies! :-D

I had the same thing,I had a mastoidectomy not to be confused with mastectomy "my boobs are fine." when I was 10,I lost 50% of hearing I my right ear, they couldn't rebuild the structure until I'd finished growing so I still haven't had it rebuilt.

    Send her my best wishes.

Final update (unless she chooses to pilot this posting ship): everything went great this morning with the follow-up and bandage removal, doctor says she should be fully healed in a week or two. Nice to see some old names again and thanks for all your comments and concerns. Wish everyone well in their endeavours and have a good weekend!

Well, she's sitting on the sofa next to me and hasn't launched anything my way so I guess I'm in the clear. rolleyes
Besides, I used to pick on her through the board all the time as we actually met through MG.

You didn't miss any drama, at least not drama regarding this. I was just updating people as to how she's doing.

Yeah, just yanking yer chain, C. My wife is pretty much the same. I say a lot of things to mine in fun and she takes it as such. It's great, as I'm such a sarcastic git and I get away with it. Happy days.

Thanks to you folks for your encouragement, she's getting better every day. Hearing is about 75% restored, much of th swelling from the surgery is gone and she's doing really well.

And Charlie, I think she'll be calling you soon. We have about 2000 rollover minutes on standby, just for you and her! ;)

Chris please give Teresa my apologies as I have just caught up on this thread. I'll be praying for a continued recovery and for successful surgeries in the future. You and her were there for me during my wife's illness (her Parkinson's) and my sister's accident and subsequent passing. I only wish I had been there at the beginning of this ordeal but I'm sure that she was already covered in prayers by those on MG that participate in such. Tell AS that I look forward to seeing her back on the boards soon. Until the next time spaceman, watch your six because I know she has a long memory and is probably just biding her time for the perfect opportunity!

    Yours,
    Jack
