Hats for Kids w/Cancer

Hey Stubby Was wondering where you went off to.I'm so sorry to here you were Ill. That sounds like some serious stuff. I hope you're feeling better.

I went through a similar ordeal with the dealers were I'm at. They can be so ignorant. At least you have some hats to send and they will love you for that. I sent a donation from the cashier of a place I am making car payments Yeah she was the only one that did anything. The head man said they "can't" put up fliers. I've seen them in there over the holidays. and I also sent my hair as I could spare it and it was getting to long for me to take care of it by myself.(long story) I was thinking of maybe knitting some. been a long time since I've done that rolleyes:-o Practice.

I got word the other day that the radio station that mentioned this is also part of a network of 5 radio stations covering a lot of area around here. They said they'd be happy to put the story out on all of them. I got 3 replies from the first time, but not one of those people returned my email. So I don't know what to think about it. I've been busy lately and haven't gotten any more hats, but I'll get back on the ball sooner or later.

I have to come up with something respectable to this site, and the situation so that I can get it on the air. I'm sort of hoping that it not only floods me with hats, but also opens the door to this site for the people who do listen. I'm sure there are a lot of people who use Google for something, and find a link to this site, but you don't get the full experience until you've come to the forums. I joined here in 11/06 but haven't been in the forums that long. I'll keep you guys all posted.

 

Hi everyone, Oh, Stubby, I hope you are alright.. COPD is bad enough, but that sounds pretty bad.... Any Idea how you got it? The word "Avium" sounds like it has something to do with birds..:confused Hang in there, and take care of yourself... Those hats sound so cool! No hurry to ship them out, take your time and take care of yourself first....You are more important, for sure....... Don't try to hurry anything, now.. Be sure you listen to your DR. too..

I have picked up quite a few hats from Dealers, and also suppliers.... All have been happy to donate hats... Must just be the area, I guess... Or, they are trying to get rid of them before they close the doors for good LOL
I have to go back into town tomorrow, to pick up some more... Great job, you GEEKS!

Pax & Bigtrucks, don't worry, in time, if anyone is going to donate, they will. I have one radio station here, and not doing too bad, at least I am keeping up with the calls so far..

I just learned that I'm going to be getting a hat from Pizza Hut. I don't know if that's a national brand or not, but it probably is. LOL

Anyhow, I didn't expect to hear back from them. I emailed them quite a while ago.

I mailed out two boxes today, and they should have them by Friday....

 

I'll be shipping 2 boxes on Monday... Have a third but it isn't full yet... Looking good, folks! I'll pick up some more when I go into town this week, and finish filling that third box...

I got your hair Bigtrucks, will keep ya posted on what they do with it.. Not to worry, I will be there for every step.... I heard some talk of "hat-wigs" and that is where they attach a braid or pony tail out the back of the hat, and that looks COOL.. Will see what they come up with, when we all get together... Hope everyone is having a GREAT w/e.

 

That's great TeeCee. If you can, ask if they could take a pic of the finished product on Tayte and post it. What ever they decide to do I hope Tayte enjoys it.

OK, here is an update.... Green Bay Packers are aboard! :hyper
They contacted me today, and will be sending hats directly to the hospital.
Very Cool!

Nothing from the Pistons, sadly, they don't have any hats at this time, and no response from the Lions, but Green Bay Packers are really hyped! This is great.... :cool Those little boys will sure enjoy those. :-D

I also sent out two more boxes today... This is fun... I am really getting into it! :hyper

 

So, I got home last night, and there was a UPS package waiting for me. I got 2 hats in the mail from a chain of stores in the area I emailed. It also included a nice letter I'm going to scan and post here. I didn't expect to see the hats from them, as they never responded to my email, It was nice. I don't have many hats yet, working on other things at the moment, but will get back into it soon.

We have lots of time, I shipped out two more boxes yesterday, and the Packers are also shipping this week, so I think we are on a heck of a roll!
I contacted several sports teams, and only got one response from da Packers... So, all in all, we are doing good.. I know one thing for sure, the kids sure are getting a charge out of the hats... I heard of a 4 year old that was down, but a new hat put a smile on her face. She even got to pick her own... That made me feel good too... Yup, got that warm feeling again. (Inside, of course!) LOL All in due time.....

 

Here is an update: I just got word that the CHICAGO WHITE SOX is on board, and they are going to send hats out this week also.... :major

The hospital did receive 10 hats from the GREEN BAY PACKERS today. :major Great they are on board with this, it is a good thing!

 

I finally put the letter I got in digital format. First, I scanned it to the computer as a pdf, but it was too large a file. Instead of rescanning as a jpg, I just opened it, took a screen shot, pasted it in paint and saved it as a jpg.

It's a very nice letter, so I thought I'd share it with all those involved. :cool

Great letter, Pax! It is so good to see all the wonderful responses! It just warms ya all over, for sure! Bigtrucks is right, that is a wonderful letter.

I contacted some NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA teams, and did get responses from the WHITE SOX and PACKERS, so there is hope that more will come aboard yet.

.Well I finally got those Hats off to the hospital today So they should get them by Tuesday. not much, but, will get more after grand have gone back to school. Still working on that knitted hat. Had "Murphy riding with me for at least 3-4 days now and really getting tired of him.:cry Hopefully he will be gone by Sunday.(need a break)

 

Way to go , bigtrucks! Whoo-Hoo! I have another box filling, got a package from Brazil with hats, and they are COOL! :major Also, I am picking up some knitted ones for the winter time.. Picked up 6 today, that will go into this box... I will ship it just as soon as it is filled... Oh, they do enjoy them, and are quite excited too... Yup, still gives that nice warm feeling inside! :-D

Well, it's been about a month since anyone posted in this thread. Here's my update. I am about to get into the swing of things with hats again. I had to take a break while life got in the way, but I think I'm copacetic now, enough to do this again. I don't feel comfortable making excuses for not collecting hats, so before October is finished, I hope to have at least something collected.

Christmas is coming, people should be in the giving spirit before long anyhow.

I got an envelope in the mail today from Taytem's family, Courtesy of TeeCee (Thanks again) I'm attaching a picture of just what I got. I'm so excited about it, it wouldn't be fair to try and explain it with text being my only medium to communicate, it's great, thanks to all of them for sure, and best wishes.

You know what, a thought just crossed my mind, and I think I'm going to wait until at least the end of the weekend to post the picture. Hopefully I'll have something more to talk about then as well.

 

Nice going, Pax... I am sure everyone is busy with other things, but so far, I have sent 400 hats to the hospital, and the kids are just loving them:clap that doesn't include what was sent to Taytem herself, just to the Hospital...

I just got word also, that a lady in Memphis, TN. is knitting some hats for us, and they will be very much appriciated with the cold weather coming on.... :highfive

Alright, the weekend is over. I don't think I could have posted this picture very easily from home. I have to get a computer.. LOL I have a machine at the office to take home, but I'm good at making excuses about not doing that. One of these nights, I'll get around to it..

Anyhow, I checked my mail at home on Friday & had a package from Michigan waiting for me. I opened it up & got the surprise of a lifetime. I've been excited ever since. (The watch was always on my arm, not in the package LOL.)
