What an idiot his father must be letting him play in it while it was inflated and it can't have been tethered down very well !

watching him now........coming down according to news.....helium filled but you can see one side of balloon is deflated.......last report at about 5000 ft

winds are at around 25 mph.........he is really moving.........pray!!!!!!!!!

reminds me of Payne Stewart. Sure hope this ends with a better outcome!

six year old kid in there. He's down, but don't know his condition. Well, after watching all the rescue stand and dig around, no little boy or anyone else found inside.

You'll probably see it on the tube tonight..........some explaining coming up.

I should stop watching "Breaking News". CNN hasn't even had a commercial break these last 2 hours and they are all speculating again with hardly any facts blah, blah, blah!rolleyes

    /click TV off!:-D

I'm a little suspicious about the whole shebang . . . looks like the parents have some past television and internet presence.

    Publicity stunt? Hmmmmm

I caught a bit of an interview with them today where they were questioning the father about the child's response on Larry King Live where he was asked why he hid, his response:

Sounds awfully suspicious to me. Kids that age notoriously say things you don't want them to reveal.

Well, this is certainly taking a different turn. He was a weatherman, they were on that most excellent show called Wife Swap.rolleyes:puke Apparently the kids cuss like sailors because daddy doesn't want to be a hypocrite, saw that this morning in a live interview. What a bloody jerk! I don't think this is over yet.

I knew as soon as I saw the balloon he wasn't in there it wasn't big enough.

All a set up if you ask me,people who crave fame are the scum of the earth.

Ya know what the lead story was on Wolf Blitzer's CNN version of the 'The Situation Room' for TEN! :*** minutes at the top of the hour? :eek Screw this crap man though they do have good coverage on breaking stuff when info starts coming in and they don't have to keep repeating scant facts and conjectures, even if overdone to ad nauseum.

I'm watching the BBC ATM and the lead story followed alleged war crimes against both Israel and Hamas for last winter's crap between the two. Then they moved on to Pakistan and finally 35 seconds on the flying saucer, which is what it deserves.

I could think up some more blood-boiling stereotypes...

But yeah - it's made news in Australia and NZ too. I read about it in the mX, the public transport newspaper that tends to exaggerate things, but not this one. In the interview, the father and son publicly made up. Such posers.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and the father was quoted never to having believed in grounding or punishing his children... Again, an obvious bid for fame as a 'good' father.

Uht oh! Oopsie. rolleyes Man, the cops did say they were going to interview the family again today after seeing Falcon(who the heck names their kids like that?:confused) on with Blitzer and then puking twice, once on NBC and the other on ABC I believe.

Besides being liable now for some $30K in rescue costs, the guy seems to be like a real jerk! I really wouldn't be surprised if Child Protective Services gave him a visit. Who the heck takes their kids storm hunting?! :confused Sigh

Without a doubt Augie, that guy is a 'few puppies short of a full litter';) I watched him on 'Wife Swap' and I thought it was just an act for the cameras, but after seeing his actions live, I realize that my previous statement about being shy a few puppies is right on! ANYONE who purposely puts their children in harm's way, storm chasing, can't be playing with a full deck!

    Charges are expected later today.

The cable news channels are upset because he can likely only be charged with a misdemeanor.

"They used federal resources, why not federal charges? And where are child services, can't they come in and take the kids?"

WHAT!!! Every crime doesn't have to result in loosing your family and prison time. I love my country but while we have become so sensitive to other nations and ethnic backgrounds we want to run our own up a flag pole every time they make the news by stepping out of line. I'm sure they will be devastated financially as it is and the bigger the charges the more resources will be wasted on the incident.

"We need to send a strong message to people who do this!"

No, we don't. Most people already "get it" and would never do anything like that.

    /rant ;)

I agree I don't think his kids should be taken away he hasn't harmed any of them,I hate the idea of making examples of people to warn off others, each crime such be punished on the severity of the crime IMO.

Saying that 6 months jail would fit the bill,3 with good behaviour again IMHO.

Or better spend xxx weekends in jail. That way he can still work, support his family and pay taxes.

Ya, why be an extra burden on the penal system, anyways the bloody news conference is going on 40 min. now!:eek The guy certainly bit off a lot more than he can chew and got way more media exposure than he bargained for.:-D Poor kids. BTW, it's officially a hoax now.

What ever happen to community service. Forget fines. Forget jail time. Forget taking people's kids away.

Make people who don't commit violent crimes and things like this clean up trash off the highways or something. Put them to good use.

What should have been done had a firefighter or rescue worker lost a life?

This is akin to shouting fire in a crowded room!:(

Some of the helicopters cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Some things we do take for granted.

Sorry but price you pay for conning the public and press for a media stunt.

I was pretty damn close:-D It does raise an interesting talking point though,if he'd been successful through media endorsements ect. by now he'd probably be a millionaire but if you try to steal a million bucks from a bank you could be looking at life in prison.

I'm with Halo on this one, GOOD !
Not only did they try and profit from this but they also risked so many other peoples lives, because while the services where running after their pathetic ballon trick other people will have been in real danger and needed those services !
