This was in the Spam folder today:

I am Mrs Claire Page,i am sending you this mail from my sickbed in the
    hospital ,please contact my lawyer.email(mr.curtisparkinson@9.cn)

When I hold the mouse over the sender's name, ie Mrs Claire Page I get an email address which appears to be connected to a university in Sydney. *******@mail.usyd.edu.au.
I'm wondering if this person is spamming me or if their computer has been infected, and whether I should contact them either way. If it's a trojan doing this they likely aren't aware of it.

    What's normal procedure?

Your best course of action would be to always delete the message and absolutely never click on any links. I would certainly not respond since they will then know they've hit a valid email address.

I probably get 3 per week telling me i have inherited 5mil or if i will act as representative of some deceased guy i can have 10% of some phenomenal amount of cash.
I always delete without opening, I may miss out on a fortune but 99.99% of such e-mails are bogus.

I'll do that. And in thanks to you Laura, for answering my question, I will recite here the text of a spam that I thought made a rather nice poem.

    Lucky the bell
Still full and deep of throat,
That only you and I can know.
Les deux Against this sky no longer of our world.
    My keyhole blows a gale.
    From there.
    Toward . . .
Comes up with as a means to its own end.
The snowflakes are swirling, blotting out
    They sit with their wives
All day in the sun, IV.
The Paths to Cathay coextensive with everything?
    How could they know?
This gap in time, this season not their own,
Where, as I discover as I go through
Is the moon to grow with its lament, it often sounds, instead.
But snow has gathered there, has piled
    Up,
In the dread circle hemmed by glaciers.
Are gliding toward me on the ice.
Into Bronze the sky, with no that rings,
With faithful tongue, its pious note...

The ending alas was a link to some ad for Adobe software. Pity, if they'd worked a little harder on the text I might have structured a perfectly flawless piece of disconnectedness.

My keyhole blows a gale... something terribly poignant in that line, don't you think?

Bill, I got one - copied the text, can't find it now that said "Hello! Your New and much bigger (obvious body part) is In The Mail!"
I waited until it arrived before throwing out the old one... very wise of me, since it never did.

It would have cooled relations somewhat, true.

I thought they would just take the money and then send a load of cheap counterfeit software - if they sent anything at all.

    @ Private Fumbler:
you might like a song by King Missile. you'll have to google: lyrics "I woke up this morning with a bad hangover" and click on the vid or lyrics links. posting the song's title may be a no-no, so just google.

Heheh... I get those all the time, well, in my spam box anyways. I laughed and showed the Ol' Lady and she told me... oh nevermind, family oreinted board here.. LOL, sorry couldn't resist.

@ cake.... LMAO!! I know what song you mean... I actually have a copy of that here at home. I tell her that if I had one of those she would have no cause to yell at me cause I could just leave it inthe drawer for her whenever she wanted to use it *GRIN*

those "i have money to send you" spam emails are pretty funny sometimes, when im bored i occasionally read through some of them and laugh at the horrible grammar and the amount of personal info i have to give them.

the worst part about these emails, though, is that there is no "unsubscribe" button, like there is with usual spam.

Thanks for the info, solaris, but um...:-o I have to confess, I was having a lend.
Cake spotted that right away which only proves there are two devious minds at work here.
Speculant, that email-become-poem is two years old - there were plenty like it going around at the time. These days I delete the spam without even bothering to read it. Boringboringboring - you know, if these creeps are trying to scam me they might at least do it with some style.
