Desktop Vs. Laptop

  1. Hell Yeahhhh Desktop for the Win!!

    90.5%
  2. Hell Yeahhhh Laptop for the Win!!

    9.5%
  1. Which do you preffer and if you can give us a little reason why :)

    Laptop or Desktop??

If laptop, mini laptop or full size?
If desktop, full size tower, media rig or??

For me I love my standard desktop (Fits ATX), just the ability to upgrade with soooo much ease and for some reason I see them as easier to trouble shoot than laptops and I dont know why. I think it's just how much less effort is involved in pulling one apart.

I like both, and have both....actually i like my desktop and I like that my wife uses the laptop.
I use the laptop but not nearly as much as my desktop. I play games, therefore i like a larger monitor. I have a better sound system on my desktop. And like you, I can upgrade whatever I please, usually for alot cheaper than a laptop. But, it's nice to know i have a laptop and am able to take it wherever i want (usually to work to watch movies)
As far as the mini laptops, or netbooks, theyre cool, but i don't like looking at a small screen, even when I'm just surfing the net or facebook or w.e.

    To each his own.

I like my Desktop myself... I like the fact it has a smaller tower than the norm, but has quite a bit packed inside... So much more than it looks...

I like the fact that it is in ONE spot, and I can access it anytime. It is convenient for me, and does what I want... Hasn't failed me yet.. ;)

Desktop. Can't just lay it down and forget it when you walk away or have someone grab it from you while walking along.

My perfect computer would be the best of both worlds. The portability of a laptop and the power and upgradability (<-that should so be a word!) of a desktop.

But since I can't have that, I need to stick with a laptop as my main one so I can carry it around.

I'll have to go with the desktop also and, mainly, for all the reasons mentioned above, gaming, ease and cost of upgrading, etc. It's a mid tower that I built a few years ago and, granted, it's no powerhouse but I'm happy with it!!

Desktop, offers a larger screen size, and more power for my AutoCAD. I don't need a laptop, haven't been at a gas station yet and thought about my email. ;)

I've worked with desktops and laptops... for portability, laptop is it... but I have found that having a desktop offers more .....
Therefore Desktop is the choice ... no question.

    Shelagh :)

  11. So far the Desktop is winning by a storm haha 9 - 0 so far

If I'm honest, at home I don't need either. I use and would prefer a desktop at work, but at home, just to cruise the internet, I use my PS3, it has a nice 47" LCD screen. LOL

  13. At work I use a desktop

However:- There are situations in the field, that require portability. Then there is substitute for a laptop;). ~ Not into postage stamp size screens and keyboards that need little knitting needle diameter fingers to operate, so no to palm and 'mini' laptops.

Only thing I can add to that is a full sized keyboard and a large monitor of my choosing, besides I don't need the portability.

Either, have 2 desktops and 2 laptops

Desktops are custom builds and are the main machine I will use when home, laptops are for portability (guess thats what they were designed for anyways ;) ) but their are times at home I just want to surf the net and dont wish to turn on the desktop or its doing a backup or defrag etc then I use the laptop, laptop also good for being in garden and surfing the webby, not as easy with desktop.

I do have 2x Bluetooth Keyboards and Mice, so easy to plug in the doodaar BT dongle and use full sized KB and Mouse if needed for quickness, but I'm quite adept at the touchpad now.

I have both, and use both, but I prefer my desktop. My laptop overheats constantly and shuts down with no warning, so until I can afford to buy a cooler I use it only when necessary for documents (the video card is the problem, a known one). Also, I can never get as comfortable using a laptop on a desk, no matter what kind or how it's positioned.

Desktops by far,I've had a few laptops I never use them and eventually sell them which is the one great thing about laptops you can usually get a decent price when you sell them on unlike desktops which are as bad as cars for holding value.

To me laptops are a novelty, you think it would be great to go everywhere using the internet but it just gets old.

  26. So far desktops are really smashing the laptop votes haha

Not true. I don't have a lap top, (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) No, really though, when I was working on my moms a while back, I used an HDMI cable and hooked it up to my 47" LCD TV, and the monitor was well big enough then.

Seriously, I like having a large monitor, I'm waiting for the new flexible TV's to be incorporated into laptops. Maybe a thin laptop with a monitor that folds into thirds to close. Know what I mean?

    My perfect computer?

It would be a desktop tower with killer components with a wireless LCD that I could put on my kitchen counter (where I use my laptop) and a wireless keyboard and mouse. :-D

    The best of both worlds.

LOL I love this as it made me think, The instant answer is desktop, the truth is I use my laptop way more just because it is so portable and I have made it where I can do almost anything with it that I can my desktop, so I wanted to prove to myself which one, well I guess the best proof was that the lappy was up to date and the desktop needed several updates.....hmmm guess I need to use it more or at least leave it on past 3am update time, so I will say my desktop, even though I am doing this on my laptop!

My family fights over the desktop. We have enough laptops in the house that almost everyone could use on at the same time but if someone is off the desktop there is another person waiting to use it. I like it better because it is just more comfortable to use.

Agreed. I also think this poll needs at least two more options. One "I don't case, as long as it gets the job done" and one "that depends on the situation, I have both".

I am on the laptop right now, since I wanted to sit in the main family room with The Guy and watch football with him. Last night I was on my desktop playing games, which most laptops are poorly suited for. The way I see it, they both have their place, and they both have something they are better at than the other. So my vote goes to, "that depends on the situation, I have both"

And to address a comment made earlier, that means I didn't actually vote on the poll, since the only option that would be true for me, is not an option there.
