compaq nc4010: keyboard disabled in BIOS

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum. My little nc4010 laptop that has had Puppy Linux on it is about to be Mint-ified. I got tired of nothing except the wireless ever working correctly. Not even the applications that came with it run smoothly, and the fact AbiWord can't scroll or let me type properly is the final deal breaker.

In order to try and install Linux Mint instead (after reading in their forums that it works great on the nc4010), I went too the BIOS to verify I had the boot order set right before I started running live CDs.

When I get into the BIOS, my keyboard stops working. It reacts to the F10 key to take me there, and I am typing from that laptop now, so the keyboard is clearly fine, but for some reason nothing I press when I'm in the BIOS gets any sort of reaction at all.

Um... help?

 

While I was waiting for responses I took the thing apart, disconnected the CMOS battery for a few minutes, put it back together and tried again. Now my keyboard works in the BIOS again!

I know it was resolved, but was the keyboard a USB or PS/2 connection?

 

Um... it's a laptop....
