    Hello,

I'm Hungarian but am living in France for a while. Here the notebooks are cheaper and already have Windows 7 operating system, so I thought I'd buy one here in France. But as I also work for Hungary on my PC, and there we have 44 lettres instead of the 36-40. Someone told me that maybe the system allows me to adjust the keyboard from French to the Hungarian. Is that right? If not, I will have to buy one in Hungary, because it would be too difficult to use special keyboard-tabs and symbols for the Hungarian "ö" "ő" "ú" "ű" "í" "á" etc.

And also, as my French is not as good as my English, is it possible to change the Windows from French to English?

I'm sure you can help me with these answers... :)

    Thanks in advance,
    Aniko

It's possible, of course. Just go to the Microsoft site to more specific details about this matter.

    Hello,

Is the physical keyboard different in Hungary from the on in France, as in does it have different keys in different places?

Also, to change the keyboard layout of windows 7 go to start --> control panel --> Clock, language and region --> change keyboards or other input methods --> change keyboards

Then click add and find the correct language (not keyboard layout) in the list, and expand the menu next to the correct language, then check the "show more" box and check the box next to the correct keyboard layout. Then press OK all the way out. This should change the keyboard layout, but not the system language. To change the system language, you need to download and install a language pack from Microsoft.

Yes, f.e. "z" and "y" are at the opposite places, but also on the Hungarian keyboard in the middle row on the right I've got "kléáű" and above that "opőú" which is different on the French keyboard.

Fantastic, thanks a lot! I've found it surprising, because I thought maybe you'd be able to change the keyboard to the "popular languages" like English, German, Spanish, but I didn't think it'd be possible to Hungarian. But I'm glad it is! :)

Do you think, if I buy a notebook with Windows already installed on it, will I get a CD containing the language pack from Microsoft, or is it normally an extra?

    Thanks & greetings from France,
    Aniko

    Hi

To use the MUI/LIP (Multilingual User Interface/Language Interface Pack) language packs you would have to be using Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise sadly, some info HERE and if you have Ultimate or Enterprise they do show up in Windows Update in a list of 34 Language Packs and Hungarian is one listed.

Be careful, you can change the input languages on the keyboard but you can't change the Windows OS language. [Unless something has changed in Win 7]
So your dialogs boxes will be in French even after changing the keyboard language.

I don't think this will change the system language but will only allow specific characters to display correctly on webpages and documents.

I may be wrong but I have seen several posts where people have bought PCs in China while on business but upon returning to US can't change the language. They have to buy a US copy of the OS to get English dialogs.

Thanks Halo. :) Does that mean using Ultimate or Enterprise you could actually change the OS language completely with a download? That would be good to know.

Thanks for testing it. Now I'll be sure to remember that info before saying it can't be done. Ultimate and Enterprise...(just typing it up to help get it into muscle memory) ;)
