I need serious help with my laptop. It is a Gateway and it is only two years old, so it is worth fixing. It has Windows Vista on it. The other night, my friend was playing on it and he was drunk and he changed the password on it. (The password that gets you into windows right before the desktop, the one with the username and password). He doesn't remember what it is, I have tried everything! Please help me! What can I do, it is useless to me now. I have even tried rebooting it and pushing F8 and it won't even do that now. Can I wipe it out and start over and if so, can you give me a link to do that, I have no software or anything. Thanks.:confused

O.K. I have been looking at this and have been "Beating myself up" about the implications. I can tell you how to "Fix" this but, I / You cannot verify if you actually own the machine. I WOULD NOT ALLOW ANYONE ELSE on my machine before creating a seperate "User" account without various "Permissions" ("drunk" NO-WAY).

I have had people arrive at my doorstep, asking me to "Reset" their machines and I have refused unless I could verify that they actually own the machine in question. You say that you "have no software" - THAT WORRIES me immensely. I have every disk, ever supplied by my retailers.

Go into the "Set up" via the "Delete" key at 1st boot screen, I suspect that if you don't actually own the machine and a password is set for the BIOS, you are pretty well "Knackered".

I would be "VERY ANGRY" with myself and my "friend" if this happened to me (Sorry - It couldn't).rolleyes

Maybe there is someone else out there who is willing to give you the path.

I agree with sdbett that we have ways to do it but online it is very difficult to verify ownership (you could be trying to get into someone else's laptop)

So having said that the only suggestion i can make is go to the dealership where you bought it and ask for assistance.
And never let anyone play with your PC !!!!!!!!

    ,

I have just received a warning from this site for answering questions that have already "been resolved" and cannot answer the warning. Therefore, I relinquish my membership. I apologise for this.

    Kind Regards,

Thank you. It appears that I have received a warning for suggesting "Remote access". I ALWAYS advise against this practise. I do not know where 'Major Geeks' got this inference.

    Keep up the good work.

BILLMCC66, I've just received a warning for promoting "remote access" in some way and "Quoting" on subjects that have already "been resolved" ?????????

I do not know how this "Inference" came about - But, 'Major Geeks' and I are not good friends at the moment. Until I find out how to contact them, I will not be helping anyone via this site.

(EXCEPT - That I suggested that I could help - But if people governing this site actually read my words, they would note that I am NOT willing to aid by "remote access").

SORRY and keep up the good work. Be careful who you help and the words you use!

    @ sdbett
The warning most probably came because you are a new member and may not be full up to speed with the rules.
We are very strict about anything illegal or that promotes any kind of nefarious activities.

How i read your post was that you knew how to help and left the door slightly ajar as if to say "I maybe will help"

Please don't be offended we all get get into hot water at times and i hope you will continue to post because the forum is one of the best on the planet and we want to keep it that way.

    Bill
