I am going through the instructions on the Read and Run me forum and I did all of them except I couldn't find a quarantine folder in the Avira AntiVir program but I ran CCleaner and removed programs I didn't use anymore. My SAS scan is the first one I'm doing and it's taking quite a long time. I tried to look up and see if this was a normal time frame but it looks like most others I saw didn't take as long.

My initial problems were extremely slow startup and general use, a few blue screen crashes, repeated "Delay Write Failed" messages, Firefox crashing when I try to open it, half of my desktop is black for some reason, but the slowness and program not responding are the biggest pain.

When I downloaded the SAS program and tried to open it I got the message about it not being a valid Win32 program or whatever so I had to rename it.

I also had a Weather Services program in my Add/Remove programs that the list said I should remove and I tried to remove it but it wouldn't give me any uninstallation boxes or anything? Help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Depends on whether you are doing a full scan or a quick scan and it depends on how many disk drives you are scanning and how many files and folders you have. Yes 10 hrs does seem to be on the long side especially for a quick scan. Did it still appear to be doing anything or was it hung? Serious malware infections could make it difficult/time consuming to run scans. You could just abort it and continue with other steps.

Quite possibly these are Windows problems and not malware. We will not know for sure until we see the logs.

Always give exact word for word error messages or we cannot help you.

thanks for the reply. The first scan(SAS) ended and didn't find anything and then the second scan(malewarebytes) found like three adware weather service things and then the combofix, I'm not sure what it did but it didn't take very long, and then my computer froze when I tried the 4th one I was supposed to do. It read "Initializing..." and wouldn't do anything. After the first scan, my computer was extremely slow, I had to wait everytime I moved the cursor.

Anyways, the reason I did not attach the logs is because I had to shut down my computer and after that all I could get was a blue screen telling me something had gone wrong...I can attach the exact message it says when I get home...but I tried to start up in normal, last good configuration, any of the safe mode ones (I think there were 3) and I kept getting the same blue screen.

    ok, thanks for your time.

It is always much more helpful to provide exact word for word error messages and other details since it helps in diagnosing the problem.

Still really sounds more like a problem with your Windows installation. You could try the below if you have your Windows boot CD or have the Recovery Console installed as suggested in the ComboFix procedure.
