Hopefully this picture is readable. But I don't know what these files are, my girlfriend doesn't but she's always downloading things.. So I assume its something I don't know. If nothing important I'll delete them all.

    Hi Silas, I wouldn't delete those.. I see :
MS-DOS , that is yoru DOS prompt
    NTDETECT looks like your connection
AUTOEXE.BAT looks to be qutie important
    CONFIGURE also important
    BOOT also important
The others look like DATA files, so might want to keep them all ;)
I think you better just leave them on, if you want to stay connected...;)

Like TeeCee said, everything (except the .sqm files--and they may be important) is CRITICAL for XP to boot and run properly. Absolutely, do not delete them. They are hidden and protected for a reason!

The sqm files are only 1kb (tiny) so I would just leave them alone as well.

    ****
NTDETECT has to due with the NTFS filesystem (not with networking) but is still critical to XP's operation and cannot be moved or altered.

The thing that is funny tho is its in my C drive: - Program Files. They were never there (until like a month ago). And I just assume files that my girlfriend downloaded on her computer.. Because she saves in crazy spots and etc.. I figure something to run something she downloaded..But if they're important why not go to important file? Why all of a sudden an old arse computer place them there? Also windows xp sp3.

    Won't delete for now either.

Most of the files you listed are normally hidden files, so if they just showed up, I would assume that someone (your girlfriend?) has went to the Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab and removed the checkmark for hideing the files.

Now that is strange. I think the ones that actually control your OS have to be in the root folder of C:\ (or at least the root of your boot drive). Do you have the same files in C:\ folder?

Maybe some kind of weird copying being done by your GF?
You can monitor the size of the C:\Program Files\pagefile.sys and see if it changes. If it doesn't change then it is probably just some weirdness of an extra copy being there. Pagefile.sys is the only one actually taking up space 300mb.
