    1. Wikipaedia - Awsome, I spend hours of work time aimlessly browsing
    2. The Oxford University chemical safety Database - ditto, but this time it is work related
    3. Work's internal IP Phone System - Covers the country, cheap as chips
    4. YouTube - ditto 1 and 2
    5. Facebook Poker - A man's gotta have some release now and again

(Majorgeeks might pop in at number 5 if my latest glitch gets solved ;) )

Hello misterbojangles! :wave I must lead a very boring life, because I don't do any of those...rolleyes Being on a DUN, I can't watch videos, and don't do face book, myself..

Although I still visit Youtube,a lot,I hate it now,it has been swallowed by the EVIL corporate empire that is Google, first censoring, then algorithmic promotion of 'clean' family videos, corporate advertising videos and demotion of user uploads, now a forced 10 second ad before you can watch some clips.

I hope another vid site rips YT's soul out,its a good taster of the evil Google is capable of,everyone was happy with google because they thought the enormous amount of power they have wouldn't be abused.

Now we know it will,so I couldn't in good conscience put it in my top 5.

    Rant over... :-D

Some people make fun of Wikipaedia as being a reliable source of information, as for me I seek it out rather then going through countless websites that sometime has nothing to do with what your looking for.

Facebook has allowed me to find relatives I didn't know I had, and hook up with some my immediate family who are too busy to pick up a phone rolleyes

Youtube is great, can usually fin anything I look for there, especially the oldies (like me)

Here of course, friends and discussions

    Wikipaedia
    Facebook
    Youtube
    MGs

The UN explosive hazards crack me up

    http://msds.chem.ox.ac.uk/glossary/un_hazard_codes.html

    UN Hazard codes
Its like its specifically designed to catch you out:-D Why are the safe explosives at 1.4?Wouldn't it be more logical to put the safe explosives after the mass explosive hazard?

I just know someone in the past will have said "Don't worry its a 1.5 explosive its safer than a 1.4 just pile as much of it together as we can!" :-D

More fools us. Google wants to replace M$oft as the dominant entity in computing, and are even LESS interested in producing reliable tools.
I moved to Gmail two years ago because Yahoo was clogging its service with fancy bandwidth-chewing banner ads. Gmail is more like a lottery: sometimes it works, sometimes you have to switch to HTML. This only became a problem around Feb this year but it hasn't improved.
And Google are the folks who want us to pack all our data into their cloud. NFW, as my dear departed gran would day.

    OK, that's MY rant over...

    I disagree a bit.

    My list:

    1. google

    3. nist chemistry webbook
    4. engineering toolbox
    5. majorgeeks (sorry, busy these days)

No, they want to be the Microsoft of cloud computing. Their business model is completely incompatible with a Microsoft like company, and have no chance right now of competing with them on their major fronts.

    Mine:
    1. Amazon
    2. Google (all searches seem to end in wikipedia :-D)
    3. MajorGeeks (my tech site which I'm addicted to)
    4. Cooks Illustrated (my go to for every recipe I make if they have what I am looking for)
    5. DeviantArt (my photography site which I'm addicted to)

I was just having a rant, but I'd be interested if you'd elaborate here. My take on it was that M$ wanted the whole kit and kaboodle such as it was ten years ago - ie, machines and software - and Google is now making its play to achieve dominance from the opposite direction ie data storage and distribution.

    My top 5:
1 -The blog of journalist Andrew Bolt:
    http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/
Bolt was one of the first Aus reporters in Australia to pick up the story of the CRU emails. Most of the mainstream media here are still ignoring it.
2 - Vexnews, another Australian news site.
    http://www.vexnews.com/
    3 - Dark Roasted Blend
    http://www.darkroastedblend.com/
    4 - Major Geeks
    5 - Strange Cousin Susan.
    http://www.my-silvermac.com/
The blog of Mickelodeon, who shares my fascination with Elizabeth Montgomery and also does a neat job of recaptioning Doctor Who.

    Well, to elaborate--

Microsoft is a software company that makes some hardware. They branched out to video games, music, etc.

Google on the other hand is a internet-centric company. Everything they do focuses on the cloud. Their OS will not be designed to compete with MS, nor will it. It will be for internet appliances and netbooks. Google makes their money off of revenue generated through their cloud services, and nothing tangible, that they actually sell. So its in their best interest to push everything they do into the cloud, as it makes them money. Same with Android.

Microsoft otoh, deals with things tangible. They sell licenses for what they make, and generate revenue from that. They aren't about giving things away because unlike Google, it doesn't make them money at a later time. While MS does have some cloud based services, they (as a company) are very much grounded, and I don't forsee them changing that any time soon.

So as you can see difference in goals now?

    I see the difference. Thanks.
