Second comp XP, picking up my router with Sitecom Wireless network PCI adapter 54g wl-115 excellent connection but not connecting with internet no address when doing ipconfig
Tried repair but it keeps on trying to get the address but fails
Went to wireless Zero configuration switched it off then later restarted it still not working
Went into device manager/network no exclamation marks
    First comp works fine

Run IPConfig on the first comp and note down the IP address, Subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS router addresses.

    On the second comp:
    1. Open control panel: start --> settings --> control panel
    2. Open network connections
    3. Right click on the adapter with the fault and choose properties
    4. Scroll through the list in the middle of the screen until you find the TCP/IP entry (or similar). highlight this by clicking on it and click the properties button below the scroll window
    5. In the window that opens, click on the "use the following IP:" circle and enter the values you recorded earlier.
    6. Repeat this process for the DNS server at the bottom of the window. Only the primary DNS server is necessary.

If this does not work please post back

The IPCONFIG all looks correct to me. Try opening your browser and typing 192.168.1.254 in to the address bar at the top of the screen to log into your router. It should ask for a username and pasword which, if you have not changed them, can be found either on the base of the router or in the manual.

The router should be able to tell you if it is connected or not. If it is connected, then there is another problem, proably with your DNS resolution, as Digitalocksmith said.

I suggested that epsonone use a static, manually configured IP address as he could not get an address through DHCP.

What I have not mentioned is the second comp has been reformated by a shop and they put xp window on but only sp2 say it was best to not to put on sp3 for the window d/loads
I am with bt who would do a remote but I have not got ethernet connection on my second comp

You do know that using the same IP address on both machines will cause a conflict, don't you?

You need to set the last digit of the IP address on the second computer 1 digit higher than the first, so if the first computer has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 then the second one needs an IP address of 192.168.1.2
