Wierd issue - Some program clicking me off my main window?

I've had a wierd little issue going on for a while now when I'm in internet explorer(or at least I thought it was limited to that). Occasionally I'll be typing, or even just reading something and doing nothing, and the top bar goes light blue as if I clicked off that window to something else, and I didn't.

I never thought much of it and figured it was something with internet explorer but lately I started playing some games again, and when they're in full screen view, they randomly minimize themselves, again, as if someone clicked something in the background. In IE it's not so annoying(except when I'm typing something and don't realize the window's not active anymore) but when I'm in the middle of a game, it seems to be a good way to lose.

This problem has been going on for months. Last week I ran the malware programs in the run me first thread, not for this issue, but just because my computer was running a bit slow. I followed this with a full virus scan(AVG Antivirus) with no hits, and then defragmented my hard drive.

None of that cleared up the problem with the screen clicking off.

Using CCleaner, at that time, I also shut off all start up programs except for ctfmon.exe, Windows Defender(on a different note, can someone tell me what this actually does?), UpdReg.exe, and AVG9_Tray.

Yesterday, I hit ctrl-alt-del and went to my running processes. I looked up every one of them online, and they all seem to be normal windows stuff, obviously with exception of my antivirus program.

At this point, I'm out of ideas. If anyone has any further insight, let me know, please.

    Thanks in advance

EDIT: It's Windows XP by the way

    Greetings, Levantis...

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx : Windows Defender is software that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software by detecting and removing known spyware from your computer.

As far as your problem: are you running AVG while this is going on?

My my so many AVG users with issues lately, i recommend you get rid of AVG and replace it with Avira.

As for the windows defender, i don't quite understand how running an extra real-time monitoring app' can Speed your computer up!

It is not needed at all if you have a good AV and firewall, plus you shouldn't have any other real time security app's running except AV & Firewall. Malware scanners should be on demand IMO.

Not only will this make your PC more secure i would give good odds that your issue will miraculously vanish once you are running better prog's and got rid of un-needed bloat [i.e. Defender!]

    Thanks for the quick responses.

I'm not actively running AVG as in scanning, or having the control panel open or anything, but it is on my start bar. It just runs and scans stuff I download, I guess. If I right click it, the only options are Open User Interface, or Update Now, so I can't even close it when I play a game. If I try to shut it down from the task manager, there's like 10 different programs running that are AVG related, and shutting any one down does no good because it starts right back up instantly.

I'll try Avira. AVG was just the only one I knew of that was free. And I'm not sure, but I wonder if the problem started when I upgraded to AVG 9. Maybe it's a new bug.

Anyway, I'll try changing the antivirus program. Thanks.

When you uninstall AVG use ther seperate uninstaller, otherwise it will likely not uninstall properly.

I would also run Ccleaner and reboot before installing Avira.
