I'm from Detroit, and I want to apologize to everyone for subjecting to them the horror of having to watch the Lions play every Thanksgiving. :-D

Happy Turkey Day, people! I hope you all enjoy the festivities and the holiday for those whom it applies. I was going to cook a bird, but work commitments didn't allow the time for it, so the bird and ham can stay in cryogenics until Christmas:yum.

Sounds like you'll have a good get-together at your great aunt's, Laura. P.A. is such a beautiful state, for the most part. My mom was originally from Scranton, actually.

 

T minus 90 minutes and counting until i shovel loads of turkey-mashed potato-gravy sandwiches into my mouth, followed by beer. :drool:yum

Forgive me for being ignorant :-o and all that but i'm from the UK and we don't have thanksgiving so could someone explain to me what it's all about and what's it for :confused , my wife has relatives in Texas and Idaho but we've never ever got round to asking them !
Must admit though anything for a party and i'd do it and the food in those pics, well :drool:drool:drool

 

It's a harvest festival when all the crops have been picked and one waits for winter break from the work.

Since I didn't grow up in the US, the way I see it, Thanksgiving means a day off work in the middle of the week when we eat TONS of good food and watch football on TV all day long. In other words, it is awesome.

 

I wish you could have been here too Dave,my old friend of years.It was actually better than it looked.I`m bragging but the turkey and dressing were great but the sweet poatoes were magnificent.I used a recipe I found online.1 can of sweet potatoes,add 2 tbsps butter,1 tspn each nutmeg,cinnamon and2 tspns of vaniila extract and 11/2 cups of regular sugar with a sprinkle of salt.Bring to boil then cover and let it cook on low for as long as you want,mine was about 2 hours.They are so good you can eat them for breakfast or desert.:-D I`m stuffed now the dishes are done and Peeps is on the couch in my spot on my hot pad.Guess whos going to be moving as I have a cup of Twinings Earl Grey and a cigarette or 2.:cool

 

That sounds sooo good. :drool I might ask you to remind me of that recipe when Christmas comes round.

 

I didn't even get turkey. The parahna known as my family swooped in and left a skeleton on the plate within about five seconds.
