My old PNY GeForce FX5200 256 MB PCI card took a crap a few days ago. I'm stuck using the on board video which is about 64 MB. (hp pavilion 504n) Installed memory 1GB, OS Windows xp. I'm kinda having a hard time picking a new card, Most of the ones I looked at on new egg had some pretty BAD Cons. I don't wanna buy a new card and end up with something worse than my old one that wont do anything i want it to do, or it will but a very crappy job at it. So any Suggestions would be great.

What I expect of a card,
Has to be at least 256MB.
having an S-video out. (Would be a plus)
Must be able to handle Games like Gunz online, PKO, Tales of pirates online, talisman online at full GFX settings with no lag or sudden crashes. Id also like to avoid one of the problems I had with the old card, which was; Major lag While Watching shows on the TV via s-video and browsing the internet at the same time. If this is possible. It would also be a plus if the card came with a fan.

Could I know if this is a custom build or pre-build?

Also knowing your motherboard and PSU wattage will help as well.

I'm not a gamer so I'm not familiar with the games you mentioned. Anyway, you clearly don't have a good gaming machine there if you're a hardcore gamer.

Since you have neither PCI Express or AGP, I believe the selection you see on newegg.com for PCI cards is as good as any selection you'll find elsewhere. I think I'd take a serious look at this one: PNY VCG84512SPEB GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card - Retail

Same card I found, I wouldn't say Gunz or any those other games are hard core games, My 256MB card handled them pretty well for the most part with a little lag now and then and crashes once in a while on gunz. But this card is 512 what are the chances it'll handle these games ALOT better?

    GUNZ System Requirements

    Recommended Requirements
CPU- Pentium III 800 MHz or higher
    RAM- 512 MB or above
Graphics Card- GeForce 4MX or higher

Firstly I wouldn't get to bogged down with "newegg" reviews unless you are seeing an incredible amount of negative comments as they are from "the average Joe" and not technical. There useful for a "coarse guide" at best to base further research on.

The card listed by usaf looks really good compared to your previous (I wouldn't be spending anymore on a PCI Card) and seems to have a reasonably solid community review:

Same card again, too bad i couldn't find another 512 mb just as good but with an s video and in the same price range. The gf likes using the s video with her tv.

I don't know much about Hdmi but she's got loads of aux in's and outs on the back of her tv, You don't have to have an hdmi port on the tv do you?? If not then instead of s video i could even go with an hdmi.

I think it would work for low end games and that's about it. PCI is old and isn't meant for new gaming video cards.

well look at the specs for gunz i linked above, you tell me, does that count as a low end game?

it seems like a low end game. You may be able to play max gfx with that card but i'm unsure.

I was able to run it fairly with the old 256mb card, some lag now and then and the game would crash a couple times out of the day. Btw my old 256mb card was 128bit, the one I'm thinking about getting is 64bit, whats the difference between 64bit and 128?

128bit is better but the GPU on the card is likely better then your fx card.

it would be nice if my new card was 128bit as well but, that'd probably cost over $100.00 for 128bit 512mb card. From what ive seen anyways.
