I come to see and realize that tonight we are going to get either 6 plus inches or 8-12 inches in the next 48 hours. Also starting tomarrow at noon time is sleet and sleet and mix until late at night of 7pm then snow showers till thursday.

Just a quick question for you all, here in the UK people say " it's cold enough to freeze te balls off a brass monkey " does anyone know where this saying comes from, and BTW no cheating and googling it ! ;)
P.S you not wrong Kestrel13! it's baltic here in the north !

Not missing that at all, though I'll have to put up with it when I go back home for Christmas.

Yeah it's my first winter here in the high desert of California, it's not that cold compared to Minnesota winters, I'm only wearing a long sleeve shirt. But it is really nice have all the surrounding mountains with snow on top of them. Thankfully no snow made it down to town though, I wouldn't trust these Californians on snowy streets.

We've only got about 18 inches on the ground, with a thin layer of ice over it (boy does THAT make walking with crutches entertaining!), but tonight through Thursday we're supposed to get hit with some HUGE ugliness. It's snowing again right now, which is supposed to give us another 4-6 inches, then change to a snow/sleet mix to lay down about an inch of ice, then change back to snow again and give us another foot.

Might I suggest if you hate this crap as much as I do, you should never live 40 miles east of a Great Lake? rolleyes

You live on the peninsula? This Colorado low is gonna hit us starting tomorrow AM and it's forecast up to a foot with heavy winds so basically a blizzard. Add to that it will be warm and wet snow so the branches can break and bust the power lines too.

Anyways, I have two 18L water jugs filled, I have a well so no power=no water, plenty of firewood, plenty of gas for the snowblower and etc. I'll fill the bathtub with water tomorrow with the rule "If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown let it down." :-D

Good luck to anyone that has to venture out in this crap.:)

Whoa, Sgt. Tibbs, "18 inches on the ground" PLUS ice???? Holly, whoa! :eek You are so far South of me, and we don't have a flake--->YET<--- But, they are calling for snow tonight and into tomorrow.. I don't know if "we" will get it, but there is snow to the North of us, and to the South of us, but so far, we have bare ground.. ;)

Been pretty darn mild so far, as far as temperatures go, not even the winds we normally have.... Definately a strange winter! Maybe El Ninio? I don't know for sure, but it's been very easy on the heating bills, for sure.. SO FAR.... I am sure, January will make up for lost time tho....

I do live on a Peninsula myself.. And Lake Michigan is the closest.......:wave

18 inches! :-D Theres just so much. I met a guy back in the day he moved here from just the outside of Denver and he was a rock climber and etc with jeeps. Anyways I helped him build a rare Jeep and we took it over back to Denver so he could show me his dad and new town and state and the crazy snows. Normally my town isn't to crazy on snowfall usually ice that kills us here. But there man that stuff was more then 3 ft. And he showed me pictures of worst winters. Where the whole yard was up to the door and they dug tunnels lol

edit-so far here we got like 3 inches.. not as bad as Id thought.. but in few hours suppose to start sleeting then mix ran/snow rest of the night. And I drove GF to work on edge of town so I have to drive through town and outside of town on icy road with crappy slick tires.. But each winter my main worry is other drivers.. I hate them lol no offense..but to many dummys out there.

Hey, Silas, Some places do get tons of snow! North of us, is the Keweenaw Peninsula, and that juts out into Lake Superior, and they get lake effect snow, so it pretty much snows all the time up there. BEAUTIFUL beyond belief, for sure! Nice place to visit!:-D

If we get any, I am not worried, have milk, have bread, have plenty of stuff, don't need to be driving in it.... Dr. appt. next week, so the roads will be clear by then... One thing for sure, we have never been snowed in to where we couldn't get out.. :-D

Also, have relatives in Wyoming.. They get tons there, too! But, 18" for Detroit is a LOT, believe me... That is unusual for them.. They have snow, and we don't.. Go figure, and we live so much farther North of Detroit, you would think we had snow..... I am sure eventually we'll get some.... ;)

The funny thing is, I'm working hockey games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. And I'm sure at least most of the normal 6,000-8,000 folks will still show up. :-D

I'm not on a peninsula, but a bit northwest of Grand Rapids. Turn the palm of your hand toward you with your thumb to the right. About an inch down from the base of your pinky and about an inch in from the side is where I live. LOL

Here in Darwin, Australia, it is stankin hot, the humidity is way through the roof, and the suns just at the point where you'll burn quite easily!

I notice that here when it is stormy, you also burn, even though the sun isn't out, very strange, the kids got like a wind sort of burn while they were out the back in the pool in the pooring rain!:-D

Yesterday was stormy and rainy here, wind blowing, rattling my shack and cold winds coming in thru all the cracks and gaps...but today was just windy, and this afternoon I swam out by the pier and was bodysufing about an hour.

Came in right before dark, with beautiful clouds and pink sunset...Big big waves coming, tho, next couple days, they're already hitting Hawaii so I hope rain stays away, which it usually does...water temp still about 60 degrees...still shorts and sandals outside, tho feet got a little cold today.

Already getting moderate snowfall mixed with sleet and freezing rain here with winds gusting up to 24 mph. So far we have 4" of new snowfall on the ground. Temperature is now up to 34.3*F and rising slowly. Barometer is 29.41" Hg and falling quickly.

Maple syrup??? You all have the trees? That would be news to me. We have syrup parties in the spring(cabane a sucre) where everything is cooked with maple syrup! Too sweet for me. You guys ladle hot syrup onto snow for the kids, hay rides etc.?

I think we got maybe two inches new snow, but the wind is EVIL! Wouldn't be surprised to find the basement window covers in the next county come morning, even though I've clamped them down and piled rocks around them. We're hovering right around freezing, so the rain/sleet they promised is more like snow/ice crystals. Felt like someone hit me in the face with buckshot when I was out just now.

Well, it was pouring rain the entire day yesterday , even a bit of wind and 42 degree's. However, I head for the East Coast on Friday, I have not had to deal with a real winter in 15 years, so, this is going to be "interesting"! I got a winter coat, scarf and gloves, but, I really am not ready for this!!!! They had snow the other night... looks like I will be having my first white Christmas in years! I may not be round much for awhile, not sure how much computer time the kids are going to let me have! :)
Everyone , please have a safe and wonderful holiday!

I woke up this morning to about a foot of snow and it hasn't stopped yet. It's 9AM and they say it will change to rain later. I am scurrying to get ready to get out there with the snow blower before it changes to rain. Once that happens I'm screwed. If the snow blower works at all it will come out of the shute like a snow cone. Winter sucks!

Well this (mega storm) was suppose to be yesterday and the day before! And today it said (few flurries and wind!) Anyways I go to bed and looked out the window before going there to see what it was doing(little flurries). After few hours I got up and looked out the window again when standing up, notice just windy/cold looking/bigger flakes! And it started to cover everthing up again so I went to bed after a few minutes. Then today its so cold and windy and even in town its snow white because its so windy.. Driving GF to work again was a snow out in town.. then we got like a little ways to get to her actual job so its highway then country and your there! But anyways its like over an. inch atleast on all roads(there salting) but just imagine amount on non main roads... a lot of thicker ice and snow.. and yes it took me like 20 minutes to get the car door open with all the ice on it.. But yes today is worst then the past few storm winter days.. all icey, slicker then crap.. and I really hate it when people driving on my ***! I am driving home and some woman(talking on a cell) catches up to the line of cars(me being in the back) and were all going slow. Anyways she gets on my butts and slides on the ice when she braking I see the car constantly sliding due to her speed and breaking so close. Anyways even at stopping points shes on my butt but eventually turned. Back when I was in school I use to always do this for a laugh but it was to teach people to not drive on my arse. And I am not angry cause it was normal on the arse driving like some do.. but really on my arse.. if we were driving and I had to break because a car infront of me then she woulda hit me easy. Anyways if someone was to far close or close behind me and high beams on me at night.. when Id get to a stop sign or something I use to put it in reverse and act like I was going to hit them. Only like 1/4 thought I was actually going to hit em.. but wish they'd get more scared.. also I use to park the car and get out of group of guys and run around the persons car while there stuck behind me and then they lock the door or something.. but get off my arse when icey ffs!

We were suppose to snow on Monday, but it didn’t happen. The 800 foot hills did get two to three inches. We only live at 162 foot above sea level, so it doesn’t happen very often. The temps dropping it’s 40 now 6:03 PM, lows to 31. We might just get some snow, here on the valley floor.
