Why does my computer have four storage controllers?

I'm looking in Device Manager as I'm in the beginning steps of dealing with some computer issues. On a side note while I was in Device Manager I noticed that under Storage Controllers there is four entries:

    A4XVWFL8 IDE Controller
    Intel(R) ICH8/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller
    ITE IT8211 ATA/ATAPI Controller
    Microsoft iSCSI Initiator

Is it normal for a PC to have so many controllers in it? It came from Gateway like that as I did not install any new controllers, I'm just curious why it has some many of them.

    Hi

Many PCs these days have multiple controllers, especially with many having SATA as they have IDE controllers as SATA CD/DVD drives while available are not commonly used yet.

Microsoft iSCSI Initiator is a driver to allow you to use SAN storage, bascially (Storage Area Networks) so you can save to any storage device that uses your ethernet connection.

Looks like you have two IDE controllers and one SATA.

All normal in various PC setups.
