I am definitely loopy. That even made me laugh. I blame it on the major emotional stress I've been through today.

    :-D

Can you imagine? People will be starting threads like "My computer loads in 45 seconds if I spray Maxwell House on it." Followed by posts like " Maxwell House gave me a BSOD but using Folgers mine starts in 30 seconds every time".

Folgers doesn't actually count as coffee though, does it?

There is a method for attempting to save a drowned cell phone. Submerse it in the most pure rubbing alcohol you can find when it happens. The alcohol will repel the water and remove it. Corrosion is a huge danger with water based drinks.

Yes. Very scary thought. No, I have never tried this. :-D

    My computer's gone green. :-D

I'll let you do that experiment on your puter, Adry, and then you can get back to us. LOL

My daughter actually dropped her Voyager phone in the toilet. It stopped working as you would think it would. We ended up getting her a new phone. Now about 8 months later, my youngest is using the toilet phone and it's working perfectly. It just had to dry itself out. :-D

Last phone I went swimming with was a Moto Razr.

    They dissolve in water.

Seriously. The screen fell off when I took it out of my pocket.

I get customers bringing in laptops and keyboards all the time with soda or coffee spilt on them.

About eight times out of ten, I just get my trusty can of silicone spray out, and give it a good spray with the fine tube attachment that comes with it, around the keys of said computer and any crevices. The silicone repels the liquid/water and is non-conductive. Usually don't even have to bother opening them up, especially handy when they are still under R.M.A. warranty.

With any luck, all you'll end up with is a shiny laptop!;)

Speaking of things silicone, you may want to invest in one of those silicone laptop keyboard covers.

Link me to this silicone spray youre talking about, Phantom. It's not the same as the air spray stuff is it? And I think you're right about the cover.

:-D I'm just joking around with you, Steve. It was pretty funny.

It's THIS kind of stuff. Yes, it's in an aerosol can, but not pressurized with air. The one I use has a fold out fine tube nozzle and cost about eight dollars. Anyway, they all have a fine tube to stick in the nozzle, if not already attached. Best to do this in a well ventilated area. Although silicone is non-toxic, the propellant does stink.

So I could safely use it myself?

Tell me what you do with it. Does it need to be wiped off? Is it good for after the spill?

  19. Phantom

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

All you do is spray the silicone liberally around the keyboard and ports, power adapter holes, etc. Wipe with a cloth, and with luck, you'll have your lappy back. (N.B. process can be repeated a few times, to be sure.)

(P.S.:- Try not to step in any puddles of silicone, as it is VERY slippery!) Allow a few hours for any solvent to dry off before putting any power supply back in. ~ Good luck, Laura! ;)

Oh yeah, test the spray on an inconspicuous piece of the computer, (underside?), so that you know for sure it won't effect the plastic. And keep the spray of the screen. If any gets on the screen, wipe it off with a tissue or soft, clean cloth before it dries. Hope this helps ya.

    :) Yay! Thanks.

All the ports? USB, Ethernet, etc? How about vents? Stay away from those? Oh, and can I do it today. The spill was yesterday morning (so over 24 hours ago)?

The silicone will actually help soften any dry coffee stains. Yeah, all the ports it won't hurt any metal, etc. Mainly in the keyboard, if that's where the spillage was.~ I always keep a few cans around it's pretty handy stuff. But that's another topic, I guess. Oh yeah, a wipe with cotton buds, (Q-tips) around the keys and ports to get rid of any left over 'gunk'.

Manfred Mann , Blinded by the Light

    Blinded By The Light Lyrics

Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin, the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground

    But she was...
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride

    But she was...
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
    Blinded by the light

She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night

Still haven't turned it on and didn't get a chance to run out yesterday for the spray. I may do it later on today. I think I'm in that stage where I can still think the best, so I'm afraid to take the plunge. LOL
