Are any of you peeps engraciated in the ways of ebay, or more to teh point selling through ebay, and the item going for a much lower price than you hoped but you set no reserve?

Basically, i won an auction for an item, which should have gone for a lot more than it did.

I wont go into details but my limit bid was £150 (which would have been a bargain itself) and i got it for £23.27 :O

The person has a decent (400+)99.x% feedback and has been on for over 3yrs, but they have not responded yet (but have been active elsewhere)

So can they not sell if the price is too low without getting into trouble with ebay?

[i use ebay a fair buit but have NEVER had an issue with any seller, as i always collect]

    Any thoughts?

He said there wasn't a reserve. In which case, they can obviously choose to not honor the auction, however they are risking negative feedback. If the are willing to take a hit with feedback, there's nothing much you can do.

There is (or used to be) a report button which I used a long time ago on someone who put something up and never got back to me or responded to emails.

If you won an auction and they don't honor it then they are in violation of the TOS. Report them to eBay.

An eBay transaction is just like any other purchase. It's a binding agreement and you can't just say never mind.

    Hi

eBay has a new " Improved Resolution Centre " which can be located by hovering your mouse over "Help" top right hand corner of "My eBay" follow the advice.

Give the person ample time to respond to your "Polite" requests to complete the deal, 10 days minimum.

    Regards

    Thats what i was thinking.

Ill give them a few days and see what happens, i do feel a bit bad for them, but they should have set a reserve if they wern't happy for it to go for peanuts.

Edit: just to clarify; I havn't paid for the item yet, it was going to be cash on pick-up.

In today's mail I had two spare batteries for my camera complete with a charger that will work in a wall outlet or the car. Retail would be well over $100. I got it for $8 on eBay. Free shipping.

Don't feel bad. You never know just how they came by such cheap merchandise to start with. rolleyes

I forgot to ask, did you pay for it yet? If not they are not obligated. Most have a time in which to pay, it's usually not more then a day or so, in hours.
Email the sellers to see whats going on.

I've mailed them a couple of times, and they dont reply, but i have seen them answer questions and even post new items, so im sure they have seen my mail.

It was going to be cash on pick-up, so no paypal involved.

    Hi
this is something that I would have clarified first (Ask The Seller A Question) before I made a bid. You will not be able to use eBay's "Resolution Centre" if you don't pay through PayPal or what was clearly stated in items Payment details. You had better make your mind up before he states you are a none payer.

You can PM me with a link for the item.

    eh?

It was known that it was going to be cash on collection before i bid.

I don't use paypal and always pay cash on collection and verification of item working (and i make sure thats ok before i bid)

Send him another email, if he hasn't replied by the end of the week then report him to ebay.

    WooHoo :)

I spoke to/visited the seller today and they are (understandably) not happy with the price it went for, but they have seen sense and we agreed on an extra £10 (total £33) for the laptop, which is a Sony VAIO btw :)

    God bless ebay :D

And thanks for the help in here.

You sound pleased but it's still not right. If eBay knew they were doing that they may face penalties of some kind.

Get your laptop and receipt then report what they did to eBay.

i do agree it is not right, and is not good form at all!

But, i just couldn't help but feel bad for the girl when i was speaking to her, she was genuinely upset (as anyone would be for loosing one of THESE for £23)
plus due to the fact i've just bought a near perfect VAIO for £30 i am on a bit of a high myself, and am feeling kinda generous :)

Also the fact she had a near perfect record, leads me to think it was just a silly panicy mistake she made in not contacting me and going through with the sale straight away.
I should mention the extra money was my idea btw.

I'll have a think, and decide what im going to do tomorow, when im not wearing this stupid perma-grin ive got on right now. :D

If I got a deal like that on a Sony, I wouldn't argue about another 10.
Still one heck of a deal.
(Send them another eMail stating that the 10 is under duress to make them sweat some,)

Id report it to ebay (even tho ebay gets alot of reports) and hopefully they do something. I'd get proof and send your emails you sent back n forth with the seller. The seller has the choice of making it to either hit a limit of money or no sell. And they have to give you the item for the price you won it. Otherwise they will deal with ebay. IMO Id report, get them introuble, leave feedback on there site and if you got proof of that woman saying give you an extra 10 to get it in an email.. Id copy and paste it in her feedback. The thing that sucks a lot in ebay is not everyone cares what people feedback is! I've seen people with good percent and sell items that cant go to certain states in the USA without a mailing charge.. and people in that state leave bad feedback saying they never sent the item and if they want the item they have to pay an extra 50 cent charge for mail fees.. and call those people bogus when really its on the seller site can not ship to certain states.

As i said earlier the extra tenner was my idea, and if i had have gone to ebay before today, i doubt i would have this lovely lovely lappy right now, yeah without a doubt she shouldn't have done it, but she came good before too long so unless i wake up in a s@#t stink of a mood tomorow, i doubt ill be reporting it, and im still wearing that stupid uber-perma-grin i've had on since i walked out of her house with it today :D

    Peace people
