I have a HP Paviliondv2000 that my son gave me to give to his sister for xmas. He cleaned Everything off and I had to set it up which was put back to factory. I noticed that as I was removing a lot of unnecessary programs/software that it was running rather slow to be "Refreshed" . I kept at it for awhile then stop messing with it as it didn't seem to move any faster. a few days ago I had mention to my son that it was slow and he said "OH yeah that's probably because it over heated on me twice that I can remember"(and he says I abuse my desk top HA)Anyway How or what would/could I do to rectify the slowness other than to add more Ram which I'm not sure that would do the trick.?
    Thanks

Did you do a complete reinstall or just remove software? If you have just removed old software it may still have "the old registry" full of obsolete junk and impairing the PC. I would do a complete reinstall and get all updates. I like to do this once a year even on a perfectly working system, nothing better than that "clean install" feel.

Have you tried running CCleaner Slim 2.26.1050 to remove and try and get the registry "clean"? This is an alternative approach.

Finally have you checked the temps via monitoring software:

Personally I would recommend searching the HP site for the maintaninace manual, and then cleaning the heatsink and fan as directed by the manual. This is just to eliminate the possibilty of the processor heat trottling, which is where it throttles it's speed to keep the heat down.

there is a problem with that model - specifically overheating. See if you can get a free repair. One of the chips overheats and will kill the motherboard.
Don't update the BIOS. All that does is causes the fan to run all the time to try and prevent overheating. Then when the fan dies and the computer is out of warranty, HP will say, "too bad".

@ plod Thanks but he has already done that.

@ Bold Eagle He wiped it clean as there was a blank screen and asked for the product key when ever I turned it on.I went from there. Im trying to figure out which programs I can eliminate that won't mess with the lappy but I don't want to remove ALL the goodies ie> HP Games(younger ones like playing the games), and not sure which of the following are better for the older ones and mom for downloading music to their MP3 and other musical gadgets.
Did the CC and it moes a little faster but not enough to make a difference.
The everest Free doesn't work on it.:( Is there another program that may be compatible with it? Would really be curious as to what the temp is.

@ Collinsl That's the next step.

Thanks everyone for your input as it helps me to understand a little more on the functions of pc's as I go along.BT

    OK.
Have the core up and running. This is all new to me how do I find what the Norm temp should be for this particular lappy. Core 0 Low started at 124 and is now fluxing at 129fernht 131frnht in the "core temp sys. info" window and 122-stable in the main, The high in the main window is 142 (hotest) highest load was 20. Don't know if you understand or not but if I need to I'll take apic, as my screen as my prnt scrn won't work:)confused)
    Thanks
